Translation — Tafsir
Word Meanings:
- Al-Haqq (الحق): The absolute truth — here referring to the Qur'an and the message of Islam brought by the Prophet Muhammad (peace be upon him).
- Ihtada (اهتدى): To be guided, to choose and follow the path of guidance willingly.
- Dalla (ضل): To go astray, to deviate from the truth after it has become clear.
- Wakil (وكيل): A guardian, a trustee, or one who has authority over others to hold them accountable for their deeds.
Explanation of the Verse:
O Prophet, say to all people — regardless of their background, belief, or status: "The truth has indeed come to you from your Lord." This is not a matter of speculation or opinion; it is a decisive reality. The Qur'an has been revealed, the Messenger has been sent, and the proof has been established. There is no longer any excuse for ignorance or hesitation.
Then Allah clarifies the nature of guidance and misguidance: whoever chooses to be guided, let him know that the benefit of his guidance returns to none but himself. Allah is completely self-sufficient and in no need of our obedience. When you pray, fast, give charity, and worship Allah, you are not doing Allah a favor — you are doing yourself a favor. Your faith purifies your soul, elevates your rank, and brings you peace in this life and salvation in the next.
And whoever turns away and chooses misguidance after the truth has been made clear, let him know that the harm of his deviation falls upon none but himself. Allah is not harmed by our disobedience, nor is His kingdom diminished by our sin. The one who loses is the person himself — he loses his peace, his purpose, and ultimately his eternal success.
The Prophet (peace be upon him) is then told to declare: "I am not a guardian over you." He is not responsible for forcing anyone to believe, nor is he a keeper who records every deed for the purpose of punishment. His mission is simply to convey the message clearly and sincerely. The choice, the responsibility, and the consequences belong to each individual.
A Call to Reflection:
This verse carries a profound and liberating message for every human being. It tells us that the door of truth is open — it has come to us, not as a distant possibility, but as a present reality. No intermediary is needed, no barrier stands between you and your Lord. The Qur'an is before you, the guidance is clear, and the choice is yours.
What a beautiful religion Islam is! It does not force anyone, nor does it oppress anyone. It simply presents the truth and then respects your freedom to choose. But it also warns you — lovingly and seriously — that your choice has consequences. If you choose guidance, you are the winner. If you choose misguidance, you are the loser. Allah remains above all, unaffected by our choices, yet He loves for us to succeed.
So seize this moment, dear reader. The truth has reached you. Do not let it pass by without reflection. Open your heart to the Qur'an, let its light illuminate your path, and taste the sweetness of faith that brings true peace to the soul. The Prophet (peace be upon him) has delivered the message with utmost sincerity — now it is between you and your Lord. Choose what is best for yourself, for your own salvation, and for your eternal happiness.
