Translation — Tafsir
Word Meanings:
- Bidurr (بِضُرّ): With harm, hardship, affliction, or any form of distress — whether physical, emotional, or material.
- Kāshif (كَاشِف): One who removes, lifts, or dispels.
- Rādd (رَادّ): One who repels, turns back, or prevents.
- Fadlih (فَضْلِهِ): His bounty, grace, and goodness — the blessings and favors He bestows.
Tafsir (Explanation):
O noble Messenger, and O believer who hears this call — know with certainty that if Allah touches you with any harm — be it sickness, poverty, fear, loss, or any trial — then there is absolutely no one who can remove it except Him alone. All the physicians, all the powerful rulers, all the means and strategies of the world combined cannot lift a single affliction that Allah has decreed. And conversely, if Allah intends goodness for you — health, wealth, peace, guidance, or any blessing — then no force in existence can block His favor or turn it away. Not the envious, not the scheming enemies, not even the combined efforts of all creation.
This is the absolute sovereignty of Allah over all affairs. He alone gives and He alone takes. He alone harms and He alone benefits. He alone tests and He alone heals. His will is executed without any partner, and His decree passes without any obstacle.
And He — glorified be He — bestows His bounty and sends His trials upon whom He wills from among His servants, according to His infinite wisdom and perfect justice. He knows what is best for each soul, and His choices are never wrong, never unjust, and never without purpose.
Then the verse concludes with two of His most beautiful names: Al-Ghafūr (The Oft-Forgiving) and Ar-Rahīm (The Most Merciful). This is a gentle reminder that even when trials come, they come wrapped in mercy — for Allah forgives the sins of those who turn to Him in repentance, and He showers His compassion upon those who believe in Him and obey Him.
A Da'wah Reflection:
Dear reader — what a profound lesson this verse carries for your heart! If you truly internalize that no harm can touch you except by Allah's will, and no good can reach you except by His grace, then your heart will find complete rest. You will stop fearing the creation, for they hold no power over you. You will stop despairing over lost opportunities, for Allah's bounty is greater. And you will stop grieving over trials, for behind every hardship lies His wisdom and His mercy.
This is the essence of Tawheed (monotheism) — to direct your hope, your fear, and your trust solely to Allah. When you live with this awareness, your worries diminish, your faith strengthens, and your connection with your Lord deepens. And remember — the same Allah who tests you is the One who forgives you and showers His mercy upon you. So turn to Him in every state, for He is Al-Ghafūr, Ar-Rahīm — ever ready to pardon and ever eager to bless.
