  • الصَّالِحَاتِ: Righteous deeds — actions that are sound, good, and in accordance with Allah's commands.
  • تَوَاصَوْا: They advised one another, urged each other, and recommended to one another.

  • بِالصَّبْرِ: Patience — steadfastness in obedience to Allah, restraint from sin, and endurance through trials.

Explanation of the Verse:

After Allah Almighty declares that all of humanity is in a state of loss and ruin — except for a specific group — He now describes this fortunate group with four noble qualities that rescue them from that loss.

First, they are those who believe — their hearts are filled with faith in Allah, His angels, His books, His messengers, and the Last Day. This faith is not merely a claim on the tongue, but a conviction that settles in the heart and drives the limbs to action.

Second, they perform righteous deeds — their faith is not barren or empty; rather, it bears fruit in good actions. They pray, give charity, enjoin good, forbid evil, and strive in all that pleases Allah. Their belief translates into a life of obedience and virtue.

Third, they advise one another with the truth — they do not keep the truth to themselves. They call each other to steadfastness upon faith and monotheism, reminding one another of what is right and just. They are a community of mutual guidance, each one supporting the other in holding fast to the truth, even when it is difficult or unpopular.

Fourth, they advise one another with patience — they encourage each other to be patient upon obedience to Allah, patient in refraining from sin, and patient in facing the hardships and trials of life. They know that the path of truth is not easy, so they strengthen one another with the weapon of patience.

These four qualities form a complete system for salvation: faith as the foundation, righteous deeds as the proof, calling to truth as the means of spreading goodness, and patience as the shield against all difficulties.

A Call to Reflection and Action:

Dear reader, look at this magnificent verse — it is a complete roadmap for a successful life in this world and the Hereafter. Allah, in His infinite mercy, did not leave us without guidance. He told us clearly: the one who is not lost is the one who believes, works righteousness, and lives in a community that mutually advises upon truth and patience.

This verse calls upon you to be more than just a believer for yourself. It calls you to be a source of goodness for others — to advise, to remind, to support. Imagine a society where everyone encourages everyone else to hold fast to the truth and to be patient! What a beautiful, strong, and blessed community that would be.

And know, dear brother or sister, that the greatest truth to hold fast to is the Oneness of Allah and the message of His final Prophet Muhammad ﷺ. And the greatest patience is to remain steadfast upon that path despite all obstacles.

So let this verse be your daily reminder: believe sincerely, act righteously, call to the truth, and be patient — and you will never be among the losers. Rather, you will be among the successful ones, in this life and in the eternal life to come.
