Translation — Tafsir
Word Meanings:
- Bayyinah (بَيِّنَةٍ): Clear proof, evidence, or a manifest sign that leaves no room for doubt.
- Rahmah (رَحْمَةً): Mercy; here it refers to prophethood, wisdom, and the special favor of Allah.
- Takhseer (تَخْسِيرٍ): Loss, ruin, or causing someone to be deprived of good; it implies pushing someone toward destruction and away from benefit.
Tafsir (Explanation):
Prophet Salih (peace be upon him) addressed his people with gentleness and logic, saying: "O my people! Tell me—if I am upon a clear proof from my Lord, a divine evidence that leaves no uncertainty, and He has bestowed upon me His mercy by choosing me as a prophet and granting me wisdom and guidance—then who can protect me from Allah's punishment if I were to disobey Him by abandoning the message He entrusted me to deliver? Who would defend me against His wrath?"
He was making a powerful argument: If he truly possessed this certainty and divine favor, it would be utter foolishness to betray that trust. His only duty was to convey the truth sincerely, and if he failed, no one—not even his entire tribe—could shield him from Allah's justice.
Then he turned the tables on them: "Your threats and rejection do not harm me; they only increase your own loss. You are not guiding me away from the truth—rather, you are driving yourselves further into ruin and distancing yourselves from Allah's pleasure." His words were a profound reminder that those who oppose the truth only destroy themselves, while the believers remain steadfast, trusting in Allah's protection.
Da'wah Reflection:
This verse teaches us a timeless lesson in faith and courage. When you stand upon clear truth from your Lord, no opposition should shake your resolve. The Prophet Salih's response was not one of fear or desperation, but of calm certainty—he knew that Allah's support was greater than any human threat. For every believer today, this is a call to hold firm to the guidance of the Quran and Sunnah, even when the world around us mocks or rejects it. The loss is never on the side of the truthful; it is only on those who turn away from mercy and choose ruin over guidance. Let this inspire you to be a voice of truth, gentle yet unshakable, knowing that Allah is with those who sincerely strive for His cause.
