Translation — Tafsir
Key Words and Meanings:
- Yaftari (يَفْتَرِي): To invent or fabricate a lie, specifically attributing falsehood to Allah.
- Ayāt Allah (آيَاتِ اللَّهِ): The signs and revelations of Allah, including the Qur'an and the clear proofs of His truth.
- Al-Kādhibūn (الْكَاذِبُونَ): The true liars—those whose very nature is steeped in falsehood.
Explanation of the Verse:
This verse decisively refutes the false accusation leveled by the disbelievers of Makkah against the Prophet Muhammad (peace be upon him), who claimed that he had fabricated the Qur'an himself. Allah declares that only those who do not believe in His signs—those who have no fear of His punishment and no hope for His reward—would dare to invent lies against Him. Such people, whose hearts are sealed with disbelief, are the real liars, for lying has become their ingrained habit and their defining trait.
As for the Prophet Muhammad (peace be upon him), he is a believer who fears his Lord, submits to His will, and is utterly devoted to conveying His message with utmost honesty and integrity. It is absolutely impossible for someone with his profound faith and moral character to fabricate a lie against Allah. His entire life, his truthfulness, and his unwavering commitment to the truth stand as living proof that he is the most honest of all creation, and that the Qur'an is the pure, untainted word of Allah.
The verse also points to the deeper irony: those who accuse the Prophet of lying are themselves the embodiment of falsehood. Their rejection of Allah's clear signs and their desperate attempts to discredit the truth through baseless fabrications are the greatest lies of all. For they deny the undeniable and attribute to the purest soul the very vice they themselves wallow in.
A Call to Reflection and Faith:
Dear reader, ponder this profound truth: the Qur'an, with its unmatched eloquence, its scientific insights, its historical accuracy, and its life-transforming guidance, could never be the work of a human mind—let alone a man who was known among his people as "Al-Amin" (the Trustworthy) long before his prophethood. The very fabric of this Book testifies to its Divine origin.
So let this verse strengthen your conviction: the path of faith is the path of truth, and the path of disbelief is the path of falsehood. Choose the truth, embrace the Qur'an, and let it guide you to a life of sincerity, honesty, and closeness to Allah. For the One who revealed this Book is the One who created you, knows what is best for you, and has promised eternal bliss to those who believe and do good. Do not let the lies of the liars turn you away from the light of truth—for the truth is here, clear and radiant, waiting for you to embrace it.
