Wa Rabbukal Ghafooru zur rahmati law yu`aakhi zuhum bimaa kasaboo la`ajala lahumul `azaab; bal lahum maw`idul lany yajidoo min doonihee maw`ilaa
📖 English Meaning
And your Lord is the Forgiving, full of mercy. If He were to impose blame upon them for what they earned, He would have hastened for them the punishment. Rather, for them is an appointment from which they will never find an escape.

Word Meanings:

(Al-Ghafoor): The Oft-Forgiving, the One who conceals sins and pardons them abundantly.
(Dhu ar-Rahmah): The Owner of vast mercy, whose compassion encompasses all creation.
  • يُؤَاخِذُهُم (yu'akhidhuhum): To seize or punish them immediately for their deeds.
  • لَعَجَّلَ (la'ajjala): He would have hastened or brought forward.
  • مَوْعِدٌ (maw'id): An appointed time or a fixed promise (the Day of Resurrection).
  • مَوْئِلًا (maw'il): A refuge, shelter, or any place of escape.

Explanation of the Verse:

Your Lord, O Messenger, is the Most Forgiving—He veils the sins of His servants and pardons them when they turn to Him in repentance. He is the Owner of mercy that embraces everything, and from His mercy flows His gentleness and patience with His creation. If He were to seize these disbelievers and rejecters of His signs immediately for the wrongdoings they have earned, He would have brought their punishment upon them in this very world without delay. But He is Forbearing and Merciful; He gives them respite, granting them time so that they might reflect, repent, and return to Him.

Yet this delay is not a sign of neglect. Rather, they have an appointed time—a fixed promise on the Day of Resurrection—when they will be recompensed fully for their disbelief and sins if they persist. On that Day, they will find no refuge, no shelter, and no escape from His justice. No place will shield them, and no power will protect them from what awaits.

A Da'wah Reflection:

How beautiful is this verse in revealing the character of our Lord! He is Al-Ghafoor, the One who does not rush to punish despite His complete power to do so. Every breath you take is a gift of His mercy, every moment of delay is an open door for your repentance. Do not mistake His patience for weakness—rather, see it as His loving invitation to you: "Come back to Me before it is too late." The door of forgiveness is wide open, but the appointed time is unknown to you. Seize this precious opportunity today, turn to Him with a sincere heart, and let His mercy wash over your sins. For He who is described as "Dhu ar-Rahmah" does not turn away a servant who knocks on His door with humility and hope.

📜 Verse 56-60 — Al-Kahf

And We send not the messengers except as bringers of good tidings and warners. And those who disbelieve dispute by [using] falsehood to [attempt to] invalidate thereby the truth and have taken My verses, and that of which they are warned, in ridicule.
And who is more unjust than one who is reminded of the verses of his Lord but turns away from them and forgets what his hands have put forth? Indeed, We have placed over their hearts coverings, lest they understand it, and in their ears deafness. And if you invite them to guidance - they will never be guided, then - ever.
And your Lord is the Forgiving, full of mercy. If He were to impose blame upon them for what they earned, He would have hastened for them the punishment. Rather, for them is an appointment from which they will never find an escape.
And those cities - We destroyed them when they wronged, and We made for their destruction an appointed time.
And [mention] when Moses said to his servant, "I will not cease [traveling] until I reach the junction of the two seas or continue for a long period."
