Translation — Tafsir
Key Words and Their Meanings:
- "لَنَنزِعَنَّ" (Lananzia’anna): We will certainly drag out or pull out with force.
- "شِيعَةٍ" (Shee’ah): A group, sect, or party united by a common belief or cause.
- "عِتِيًّا" (Itiyyan): Arrogant rebellion, stubborn defiance, and extreme insolence in disobedience.
Explanation of the Verse:
After mentioning the fate of the disbelievers and their false gods, Allah Almighty declares that on the Day of Judgment, He will certainly extract from every sect and group of the misguided those who were the most rebellious and defiant against the Most Merciful. These are the leaders, the chiefs, and the heads of misguidance—those who not only persisted in their own arrogance but also commanded others to follow them in their transgression. The verse emphasizes that from every community of error, their foremost instigators will be singled out first for punishment. They will be dragged violently and thrown into the Fire before their followers, because their crime was greater—they combined their own rebellion with leading others astray. The word "عِتِيًّا" conveys a deep, hardened insolence that refuses to bow to the truth, a stubbornness that grows until it becomes a permanent trait of the heart. This is a severe warning that leadership in evil carries a heavier burden and a more severe reckoning.
A Call to Reflection and Faith:
This verse serves as a profound reminder of Allah’s perfect justice. No one will escape their responsibility—especially those who use their influence to spread corruption, mislead others, or mock the truth. Imagine standing before your Lord, and your name is called first among your entire group because you were the most defiant! This should make every soul pause and ask: Am I a leader toward good or a leader toward evil? The Prophet Muhammad (peace be upon him) said: "Whoever calls to guidance will have a reward like that of those who follow him, and whoever calls to misguidance will carry a burden like that of those who follow him" (Sahih Muslim). So, dear reader, choose your position today. Be among those who are gentle, humble, and obedient to the Most Merciful, for He is the One who will judge with absolute fairness. The door of repentance is open—return to your Lord before that Day when the leaders of evil are dragged to their doom, and let your heart soften to the call of the Qur'an, which guides to the straight path.
