Translation — Tafsir

Word Meanings:

  • ʿAhidnā (We made a covenant/commanded): We gave a firm directive and solemn instruction.
  • Fanasiya (So he forgot): He neglected and overlooked the command.
  • ʿAzman (Resolve/steadfastness): Firm determination, patience, and strength of will to adhere to the command.

Tafsir (Explanation):

Indeed, Allah—glorified and exalted be He—had made a solemn covenant with Adam (peace be upon him) before this time, commanding him not to eat from the forbidden tree. Allah also warned him that Satan is a clear enemy to him and his wife, and that following Satan would lead to their expulsion from the Garden and hardship in worldly life. Yet, when Satan whispered to Adam, he listened and obeyed him, eating from the tree. In doing so, Adam forgot the divine covenant, and Allah found in him no firm resolve or steadfast patience to resist the temptation and uphold what he had been commanded.

This verse carries a profound lesson for humanity: even the best of creation, a prophet of Allah, was not immune to forgetfulness and momentary weakness when faced with the whispers of Satan. Yet, this was not a sin of rebellion or defiance—it was an error born of human nature, which Allah in His infinite mercy forgave after Adam repented. The verse highlights the reality of human frailty and the constant need for vigilance against Satan's deceptions. It also teaches us that true strength lies not in never stumbling, but in rising after the fall with sincere repentance and renewed determination. For every believer, this is a call to hold firmly to Allah's commands, to seek His protection from the whispers of Satan, and to never despair of His mercy when we err—for Allah is ever-Forgiving, ever-Merciful, and He loves those who turn back to Him. Let this be a source of hope and motivation: no matter how many times you slip, the door of repentance is always open, and Allah's grace is greater than any sin.

📜 Verse 113-117 — Taha

And thus We have sent it down as an Arabic Qur'an and have diversified therein the warnings that perhaps they will avoid [sin] or it would cause them remembrance.
So high [above all] is Allah, the Sovereign, the Truth. And, [O Muhammad], do not hasten with [recitation of] the Qur'an before its revelation is completed to you, and say, "My Lord, increase me in knowledge."
And We had already taken a promise from Adam before, but he forgot; and We found not in him determination.
And [mention] when We said to the angels, "Prostrate to Adam," and they prostrated, except Iblees; he refused.
So We said, "O Adam, indeed this is an enemy to you and to your wife. Then let him not remove you from Paradise so you would suffer.
