Word Meanings:
- "Biaayati" (بِآيَاتِي): With My signs, miracles, and proofs that demonstrate Allah's oneness, power, and the truth of the message.
- "Taniya" (تَنِيَا): To grow weak, slacken, or become negligent. It comes from the root *w-n-y*, meaning to tire, falter, or lose momentum.
- "Dhikri" (ذِكْرِي): Remembrance of Allah — including glorification, praise, supplication, and constant awareness of Him in all states.
Explanation of the Verse:
In this noble verse, Allah addresses His Prophet Musa (Moses, peace be upon him) with a direct and honorable command: *"Go, you and your brother, with My signs, and do not slacken in My remembrance."*
Allah is commissioning Musa and his brother Harun (Aaron, peace be upon him) to undertake the greatest mission — calling Pharaoh, the tyrant who had crossed all bounds in arrogance and oppression, to the truth. The phrase "with My signs" refers to the nine miracles granted to Musa, which were clear proofs of Allah's absolute power, His perfect oneness, and the authenticity of the prophetic call. These signs were not merely magical tricks; they were overwhelming evidences that left no room for doubt in any fair-minded observer.
Then comes the crucial instruction: "And do not slacken in My remembrance." This is a profound directive that carries two intertwined meanings:
First, it means: *Do not grow weary or faint in your constant remembrance of Me* — in glorifying Allah, seeking His help, and turning to Him at every moment. The one who carries the weight of a divine mission must remain spiritually connected to his Lord, for that connection is the source of strength, patience, and clarity.
Second, it means: *Do not weaken in delivering My message and calling to Me.* The remembrance of Allah here encompasses the entire act of worship and da'wah — reminding others of their Lord, calling them to His path, and persevering in that effort despite hardship.
This verse teaches us a timeless lesson: The success of any noble endeavor depends on two pillars — carrying Allah's signs (knowledge, wisdom, and evidence) and maintaining constant remembrance of Allah (spiritual connection and perseverance). When these two are combined, no obstacle can stand in the way.
A Call to Reflection:
Dear reader, see how Allah honored His prophets by pairing them together in this mission — Musa and Harun supported one another in the path of truth. This teaches us the value of righteous companionship and mutual support in calling to goodness. And notice how Allah did not command them merely to "go," but to go *with His signs* — meaning that our actions, words, and efforts must always be grounded in divine guidance, not personal whims.
The command "do not slacken in My remembrance" is addressed to every believer, not just the prophets. In our daily lives, we face challenges, distractions, and moments of weakness. But when we anchor ourselves in the remembrance of Allah — through prayer, supplication, and awareness of His presence — we find an inexhaustible source of strength. Allah says elsewhere: *"Verily, in the remembrance of Allah do hearts find rest"* (Ar-Ra'd 13:28).
So let this verse inspire you: whatever mission you carry in life — whether it is seeking knowledge, raising a family, serving your community, or inviting others to Islam — do it with the signs of Allah (His guidance and wisdom) and never slacken in remembering Him. For the one who remembers Allah is never alone, and the one who relies on Him never fails.
May Allah make us among those who remember Him constantly and strive in His path with unwavering determination.
