And I produced you for Myself.

Translation — Tafsir

Word Meanings:

  • Wa-ṣṭanaʿtuka (وَاصْطَنَعْتُكَ): I chose you, selected you, and prepared you specially. It implies a deliberate act of formation and preparation for a specific purpose.
  • Li-nafsī (لِنَفْسِي): For Myself — meaning for Allah’s own service, message, and divine purpose.

Explanation of the Verse:

In this profound and intimate verse, Allah addresses Prophet Musa (peace be upon him) directly, saying: *"And I have chosen you for Myself."* This is not merely a statement of selection; it is a declaration of a unique and sacred bond between the Creator and His servant. Allah had already mentioned in the preceding verses the many favors He bestowed upon Musa — from saving him as an infant, to granting him strength and wisdom, to protecting him from his enemies. Now, after all that preparation and care, Allah reveals the ultimate purpose: *I have made you for Myself.*

This means that Allah singled out Musa (peace be upon him) from among all people of his time to be His messenger, His prophet, and the bearer of His divine revelation. Musa was not chosen because of his own merit alone, but because Allah’s infinite wisdom decreed that he would be the one to carry the heavy responsibility of delivering Allah’s message to Pharaoh and the Children of Israel. The phrase "for Myself" elevates this selection to a level beyond ordinary prophethood — it signifies that Musa’s entire being, his life, his mission, and his very existence were dedicated to Allah’s service. He was to be the tongue through which Allah speaks, the hand through which Allah’s will is executed, and the heart that carries the trust of divine guidance.

This verse also carries a beautiful and timeless lesson for every believer. When Allah chooses someone for His service, He prepares them, nurtures them, and equips them with everything they need. Just as Musa was shaped by trials and divine care before being entrusted with his mission, so too does Allah prepare those whom He loves for the roles He has destined for them. The believer who sincerely dedicates their life to Allah — in worship, in character, in work, and in devotion — becomes, in a sense, "made for Allah," and Allah honors such a soul with His guidance, protection, and closeness.

A Call to Reflection and Action:

Dear reader, imagine the honor of being addressed by the Lord of the Worlds with such words: *"I have chosen you for Myself."* This is not limited to prophets alone; every believer who submits wholeheartedly to Allah can taste a share of this honor. When you pray, when you remember Allah, when you strive to please Him in your daily affairs, you are fulfilling the very purpose for which you were created. Allah says elsewhere: *"And I did not create the jinn and mankind except to worship Me"* (Adh-Dhariyat 51:56). So let this verse inspire you to live a life of purpose — a life dedicated to Allah, seeking His pleasure in every word and deed. For when Allah chooses you for Himself, He grants you a peace and dignity that no worldly honor can ever match. May Allah make us among those who are chosen for His service and beloved to Him.

📜 Verse 39-43 — Taha

[Saying], 'Cast him into the chest and cast it into the river, and the river will throw it onto the bank; there will take him an enemy to Me and an enemy to him.' And I bestowed upon you love from Me that you would be brought up under My eye.
[And We favored you] when your sister went and said, 'Shall I direct you to someone who will be responsible for him?' So We restored you to your mother that she might be content and not grieve. And you killed someone, but We saved you from retaliation and tried you with a [severe] trial. And you remained [some] years among the people of Madyan. Then you came [here] at the decreed time, O Moses.
And I produced you for Myself.
Go, you and your brother, with My signs and do not slacken in My remembrance.
Go, both of you, to Pharaoh. Indeed, he has transgressed.
