Translation — Tafsir
Word Meanings:
- HuZuwā (هُزُوًا): Mockery, ridicule, or jesting — treating someone or something with scorn and derision.
- Yadhkuru (يَذْكُرُ): Here it means to mention, speak of, or criticize — specifically, to point out the falsehood of their idols.
- Ālihatakum (آلِهَتَكُمْ): Your gods — the idols and false deities they worshipped besides Allah.
- Al-Raḥmān (الرَّحْمَٰن): The Most Merciful — one of Allah’s most beautiful names, emphasizing His universal mercy.
Tafsir (Explanation):
O Messenger of Allah, when the disbelievers see you, they do not take you seriously at all — instead, they make you the target of their mockery and sarcasm. They point at you and say to one another, “Is this the one who speaks ill of our gods and criticizes our idols?” They say this while laughing and ridiculing you, trying to turn people away from you and your message.
Yet, in their arrogance, they are completely oblivious to a far greater irony: while they mock you for mentioning their false gods with truth and justice, they themselves are utterly ungrateful to Al-Raḥmān — the Most Merciful — who created them, sustains them, and showers them with countless blessings. They reject His oneness, deny His revelation, and even go so far as to say, “We do not know Al-Raḥmān except Musaylimah the liar” — a false prophet who claimed divinity for himself. So they mock the truth and embrace falsehood, ridiculing the one who calls them to salvation while themselves drowning in disbelief.
This verse reveals the deep contradiction in their hearts: they defend their worthless idols with fierce anger, yet they show nothing but ingratitude and denial toward the Lord of the heavens and the earth, the Most Merciful who has never ceased to bless them.
A Call to Reflection and Faith:
Dear reader, reflect on this scene and let it inspire you. The Prophet Muhammad (peace be upon him) faced mockery, insults, and ridicule — yet he remained patient, steadfast, and gentle, because he knew that the truth does not need the approval of the arrogant. The disbelievers laughed at him then, but history has proven that the truth he carried has illuminated the world, while their mockery has faded into the dust of disgrace.
Let this be a lesson for you: when you uphold the truth and call to what is right, you may face ridicule from those who do not understand. But do not let that shake your resolve. Allah sees your efforts, and He is with those who are patient. The mockery of the ignorant is a small price to pay for the eternal reward of standing with the truth.
And let the beauty of Allah’s name — Al-Raḥmān, the Most Merciful — fill your heart with gratitude. He has given you life, guidance, and countless blessings. Do not be like those who reject His mercy while defending falsehood. Instead, be among those who recognize His greatness, thank Him for His favors, and strive to live a life that pleases Him. For the One who is Most Merciful is also the One who rewards those who believe and do good with a reward beyond imagination — eternal bliss in His presence.
