Translation — Tafsir
Word Meanings:
- Yudāfi'u (يُدَافِعُ): Repels, wards off, or defends against harm and aggression.
- Khawwān (خَوَّانٍ): One who is habitually treacherous, betraying trusts and covenants.
- Kafūr (كَفُور): One who is deeply ungrateful, persistently denying and rejecting Allah's blessings.
Explanation of the Verse:
Allah, the Most High, declares that He Himself defends and protects those who truly believe in Him. This divine protection is not limited to physical battles alone—it encompasses every form of harm, whether from open enemies or hidden plots. Allah repels the schemes of the disbelievers and the aggression of the wicked, shielding the believers from their evil designs, even when the believers are few in number or weak in worldly strength. This is a promise of divine guardianship that brings tranquility to the hearts of the faithful.
The verse then reveals a profound truth: Allah does not love anyone who is habitually treacherous in their trusts and covenants, nor those who are persistently ungrateful for His countless blessings. Such people, who betray the trust of their Lord by associating partners with Him and who deny His favors, are objects of His displeasure rather than His care. The defense Allah grants to the believers is a natural consequence of their loyalty and gratitude to Him, while the abandonment of the treacherous is a reflection of their own betrayal.
A Call to Reflection and Action:
Dear believer, this verse is a source of immense comfort and strength. When you face trials, oppression, or the hostility of those who oppose the truth, remember that your Lord is your Defender. He sees every plot and hears every whisper, and He will not abandon those who place their trust in Him. Your duty is to remain steadfast in faith, sincere in gratitude, and faithful to Allah's commands—for He has promised to stand by those who stand by Him. Let this certainty fill your heart with courage, and let it inspire you to be among those who are loyal to their covenant with Allah, so that His defense accompanies you in this life and the next.
