📖 English Meaning
O people, an example is presented, so listen to it. Indeed, those you invoke besides Allah will never create [as much as] a fly, even if they gathered together for that purpose. And if the fly should steal away from them a [tiny] thing, they could not recover it from him. Weak are the pursuer and pursued.

  • "Yastanqidhoohu" — Recover it; retrieve it; take it back.
  • "Da'ufa at-talibu wal-matloob" — Weak are both the seeker (the one who calls/worships) and the sought (the one called upon/worshipped).

Explanation of the Verse:

O humanity! Allah presents you with a striking parable, so open your ears and hearts to it, and let it awaken your reason. The idols and false gods you worship instead of Allah — even if they all gathered together, united in effort and purpose — could never create even a single fly, let alone anything greater. A fly! That tiny, insignificant creature that buzzes around you, that you swat away with ease. Yet these so-called "gods" cannot bring it into existence, no matter how hard they try.

And the parable goes even deeper. If a fly were to snatch something from these idols — a speck of perfume, a crumb of food, or any small thing that might be upon them — the idols could not recover it from the fly. They cannot even defend their own possessions against such a feeble creature. Think about this: the fly takes, and the "god" cannot take back. The worshipper calls upon the idol, and the idol cannot even protect itself from a fly.

So weak are both the seeker and the sought. The one who seeks help from these idols is weak, and the idol that is sought is even weaker. How then can anyone, with sound intellect, place their hopes, fears, and worship upon such helpless beings? How can hearts find rest in deities that cannot create a fly or retrieve what a fly has taken from them?

A Call to Reflection and Faith:

Dear reader, let this parable shake you from heedlessness. Allah, the Almighty, is the Creator of all things — the One who fashioned the fly with its delicate wings, its intricate eyes, and its remarkable ability to survive. He is the One who sustains every creature, great and small. Can you compare the Creator of the fly to the created things that cannot even match the fly's power?

This verse is an invitation to purify your worship and direct it solely to Allah, the All-Powerful, the All-Wise. When you realize the absolute weakness of everything besides Him, your heart will naturally turn to Him alone. You will find peace in knowing that the One you worship is the One who hears every prayer, answers every call, and has power over all things.

So, my beloved reader, let this parable be a mirror for your soul. Ask yourself: Who deserves my worship? The One who created everything from nothing, or the things that cannot even create a fly? The answer is clear, and it leads to the greatest success — in this life and the Hereafter. Embrace the worship of Allah alone, and you will find a strength that no idol can give, and a peace that no false deity can provide.

📜 Verse 71-75 — Al-Hajj

And they worship besides Allah that for which He has not sent down authority and that of which they have no knowledge. And there will not be for the wrongdoers any helper.
And when Our verses are recited to them as clear evidences, you recognize in the faces of those who disbelieve disapproval. They are almost on the verge of assaulting those who recite to them Our verses. Say, "Then shall I inform you of [what is] worse than that? [It is] the Fire which Allah has promised those who disbelieve, and wretched is the destination."

And if the fly should steal away from them a [tiny] thing, they could not recover it from him. Weak are the pursuer and pursued.
They have not appraised Allah with true appraisal. Indeed, Allah is Powerful and Exalted in Might.
Allah chooses from the angels messengers and from the people. Indeed, Allah is Hearing and Seeing.
