Key Words and Phrases:

  • Yubayyinu (وَيُبَيِّنُ): To make clear, to explain, to clarify in detail.
  • Al-Ayaat (الْآيَاتِ): The signs, verses, and evidences of divine truth, including commands, prohibitions, and moral lessons.
  • ‘Aleem (عَلِيمٌ): All-Knowing; nothing escapes His knowledge, whether hidden or apparent.
  • Hakeem (حَكِيمٌ): All-Wise; His decrees, legislation, and actions are perfect in wisdom and purpose.

Explanation of the Verse:

In this verse, Allah addresses the believers with a profound reassurance: He is the One who makes His signs and verses clear to you, encompassing all that is beneficial for your spiritual and worldly life. These signs include the divine commands and prohibitions, the ethical guidance, and the lessons embedded in the stories and rulings of the Qur'an. By clarifying these, Allah removes confusion and guides you toward the path of righteousness, just as He has just clarified the rulings regarding false accusations and the importance of guarding one's honor in the preceding verses.

Allah then reminds us of two of His perfect attributes: He is ‘Aleem—fully aware of all your deeds, intentions, and circumstances; nothing is hidden from Him, and He will hold you accountable with perfect justice. He is also Hakeem—All-Wise in His legislation and His divine decree. Every command He gives, every prohibition He sets, and every test He ordains is rooted in profound wisdom, even if the human mind cannot fully grasp it. For instance, in the context of this verse, His wisdom is manifest in how He cleared the reputation of the chaste believers (Aisha and Safwan, may Allah be pleased with them) and established a legal framework that protects the honor of individuals and the purity of the community.

A Call to Reflection and Action:

Dear believer, ponder the mercy of your Lord! He does not leave you in ignorance or darkness; rather, He illuminates your path with His verses, guiding you step by step toward success in this life and the Hereafter. When you read the Qur'an, know that every verse is a gift from the All-Knowing, All-Wise—a remedy for your heart, a light for your mind, and a compass for your actions. Let this verse inspire you to seek knowledge of His religion with sincerity, to trust His wisdom in times of hardship, and to live with the awareness that He sees all and knows all. Embrace His guidance, for in it lies your salvation, and let the clarity of His signs fill your heart with peace and certainty. Indeed, the One who explains and guides is the same One who knows your deepest struggles and wisely ordains what is best for you. So turn to Him, submit to His wisdom, and rejoice in the beauty of His revelation.

📜 Verse 16-20 — An-Nur

And why, when you heard it, did you not say, "It is not for us to speak of this. Exalted are You, [O Allah]; this is a great slander"?
Allah warns you against returning to the likes of this [conduct], ever, if you should be believers.
And Allah makes clear to you the verses, and Allah is Knowing and Wise.
Indeed, those who like that immorality should be spread [or publicized] among those who have believed will have a painful punishment in this world and the Hereafter. And Allah knows and you do not know.
And if it had not been for the favor of Allah upon you and His mercy... and because Allah is Kind and Merciful.
