Translation — Tafsir
Word Meanings:
- الْحَقُّ (Al-Haqq): The truth, justice, or what is rightfully due to them.
- يَأْتُوا إِلَيْهِ (Ya'tū ilayhi): They come to him (the Prophet Muhammad ﷺ).
- مُذْعِنِينَ (Mudh'inīn): Submissive, compliant, yielding willingly and promptly.
Tafsir (Explanation):
This verse reveals a profound truth about human nature and the justice of the Prophet Muhammad ﷺ. Allah tells us that when the hypocrites or those who dispute have the right on their side—when they know the truth is with them—they come to the Prophet ﷺ willingly, promptly, and with full submission to his judgment. They do so because they are confident that he judges with absolute fairness and never deviates from the truth.
This stands in stark contrast to their behavior when the truth is against them. In such cases, they turn away, avoid his court, and seek other means to escape justice. Their eagerness to come when the verdict favors them, and their reluctance when it does not, exposes their insincerity. They do not come out of genuine faith in his prophethood or love for justice; rather, they come only when it serves their self-interest.
The verse subtly highlights the impeccable character of the Prophet ﷺ as a judge. Even his opponents knew that his rulings were just and impartial. They trusted him to give them their due rights, because he was sent as a mercy to all mankind and never oppressed anyone, Muslim or non-Muslim.
A Da'wah Reflection:
This verse is a beautiful testament to the justice of Islam. Imagine a society where even those who do not believe in the Prophet ﷺ still bring their disputes to him because they know he will rule fairly! This is the beauty of Islamic justice—it is not biased toward Muslims or against non-Muslims. It is pure, untainted truth.
For us as believers, this verse invites us to reflect: Do we submit to the truth only when it benefits us, or do we accept it wholeheartedly even when it goes against our desires? True faith means surrendering to Allah's judgment and the guidance of His Messenger ﷺ in all matters—whether the truth is in our favor or against us. Let us strive to be people of integrity who love the truth, accept it, and act upon it, no matter the cost. This is the path of the righteous and the key to true success in this life and the Hereafter.
