Translation — Tafsir
Word Meanings:
- "Khālidīna" — remaining forever, eternally, without end.
- "Waʿdan masʾūlan" — a promise that is asked for, i.e., a pledge that the righteous actively seek and request from their Lord.
Explanation of the Verse:
In this noble verse, Allah describes the ultimate reward for His obedient servants: they will have in Paradise everything their hearts desire—every pleasure, every delight, and every comfort—while abiding there forever, never to leave and never to face any interruption of their bliss. This is not a temporary or fleeting joy; it is an eternal state of perfect happiness.
The verse then emphasizes that this reward is not a random gift or an accident of fate. Rather, it is a promise that Allah has made upon Himself—a binding, honorable commitment from the Most Merciful. And this promise is described as "masʾūlan," meaning that it is a promise which the believers themselves ask for and earnestly request. They pray to their Lord, saying: *"Our Lord, give us what You have promised us through Your messengers"* (Qur'an 3:194). They do not merely hope passively; they actively supplicate, strive, and seek this promise through their faith and good deeds.
This verse carries a profound lesson: Allah's promise is certain and cannot fail. When the Lord of the worlds makes a promise, He fulfills it without doubt. The believers' asking for this promise is itself a form of worship and a demonstration of their trust in Allah's truthfulness. It also shows that Paradise is not earned by human merit alone—rather, it is a divine favor that Allah grants out of His grace, yet He has linked it to His servants' sincere seeking and righteous action.
A Call to Faith and Action:
Dear reader, reflect on this magnificent truth: the Creator of the heavens and the earth has voluntarily bound Himself to grant His believing servants eternal bliss. He does not need us, yet He promises us the ultimate reward out of His infinite mercy and love. So why would we turn away from such a generous Lord? Why would we chase the fleeting pleasures of this world when an everlasting paradise awaits those who believe and do good?
Let this verse ignite in your heart a burning desire for Paradise and a firm trust in Allah's promise. Ask your Lord sincerely, as the righteous do, to grant you this promise. And let your asking be accompanied by action—prayer, charity, kindness, and obedience—so that you may be among those who are told on that great Day: *"Enter Paradise, for you have earned it by your deeds."* The door is open, the promise is true, and the reward is beyond imagination. Will you not be among those who ask for it and strive for it?
