Translation — Tafsir
Word Meanings:
- Ifk (إفك): A lie, falsehood, or slander that turns the truth upside down.
- Iftarāhu (افتراه): He fabricated it or invented it himself.
- Zūr (زور): Falsehood, distortion, or a statement that deviates from the truth.
Explanation of the Verse:
The disbelievers, in their stubbornness and arrogance, made a shocking claim about the Qur'an. They said: "This Qur'an is nothing but a lie that Muhammad himself fabricated, and he had help from other people in composing it." They alleged that he borrowed stories and ideas from others and presented them as divine revelation.
This accusation was utterly baseless and reflected their deep ignorance. The Qur'an is the literal word of Allah, a book so profound in its eloquence, wisdom, and truth that no human or jinn could produce anything like it, even if they all gathered together to try. The claim that it was fabricated is a clear injustice against the truth, and the accusation of human assistance is a blatant falsehood. In fact, those who made this claim were themselves committing a grave wrong and uttering a monstrous lie, for they attributed the pure word of Allah to a mere human invention.
The Qur'an challenges humanity to reflect: Could a man who was known as "Al-Amin" (the trustworthy) and who never learned to read or write suddenly produce a book of such unmatched beauty, scientific accuracy, and moral depth? The very suggestion is absurd. The disbelievers knew the truth in their hearts, but their pride and love of their false traditions blinded them from accepting it.
A Call to Reflection:
Dear reader, ponder this: The Qur'an has stood for over 1,400 years, challenging every generation to find a single flaw in it—and none ever has. Its message of monotheism, justice, and mercy has transformed hearts and civilizations. If it were truly the work of a human, would it have survived every attempt to discredit it? Would it have guided billions of people across centuries and continents?
This verse reminds us that the enemies of truth will always resort to lies and slander, but Allah's word remains protected and supreme. Let this be an invitation for you to approach the Qur'an with an open heart, to read it, and to discover for yourself the undeniable truth it carries. For in it lies the light that dispels every darkness, and the guidance that leads to eternal success.
