Explanation of the Verse:
The disbelievers of Makkah, in their stubborn rejection of the truth, claimed that the Qur’an was nothing but ancient legends and fables of earlier nations—stories that had been recorded in old books. They alleged that the Prophet Muhammad (peace be upon him) had someone write these tales down for him, since he was unlettered, and that these stories were then dictated to him every morning and evening so that he could memorize and recite them to the people.
This accusation was a desperate attempt to undermine the divine origin of the Qur’an. Yet, the very claim reveals its own absurdity: how could an unlettered man, who never read or wrote, produce a book of such unparalleled eloquence, profound wisdom, and scientific accuracy—a book that challenges all of humanity to produce even a single chapter like it? The Qur’an itself stands as a living miracle, and its preservation and impact over fourteen centuries testify that it is not the work of any human, but the very Word of Allah.
A Da‘wah Reflection:
Dear reader, reflect on the beauty of this divine response. The Qur’an was not revealed to a poet or a scholar, but to an unlettered man in the heart of the desert—yet it transformed the world. Its message of monotheism, justice, and mercy continues to guide billions. The disbelievers’ claims were refuted not by argument alone, but by the undeniable reality of the Qur’an’s perfection. If you seek the truth, open your heart to this Book, and you will find in it a light that no legend or fable can ever match. It is the speech of your Creator, sent as a mercy to all mankind—so why not let it guide you to peace and success in this life and the Hereafter?
