Translation — Tafsir
Word Meanings:
- ʿĀd – The ancient, mighty tribe of ʿĀd, who lived in the region of Al-Aḥqāf (the sandy dunes) in southern Arabia. They were renowned for their immense physical strength, towering stature, and advanced civilization.
- Kadhdhabat – Declared as a liar, rejected, and denied the truth.
- Al-Mursalīn – The Messengers (plural of Messenger). Although they were sent one specific Messenger, Hūd (peace be upon him), denying him is equivalent to denying all the Messengers, because they all came with the same core message: the Oneness of Allah and the call to worship Him alone.
Explanation of the Verse:
This verse tells us that the tribe of ʿĀd rejected their Messenger, Hūd (peace be upon him), and thus they are described as having rejected all the Messengers. Why? Because the Messengers of Allah are like one single soul in their message and purpose. They all called their peoples to the same fundamental truth: to worship Allah alone, to abandon false gods, and to live righteously. Therefore, when a people denies their own Messenger, they have in reality denied the entire chain of Prophethood and the universal truth that all Prophets brought.
The tribe of ʿĀd was a people of great power and pride. They built magnificent structures on high places and boasted of their strength, yet they were arrogant and disobedient. They mocked Hūd (peace be upon him) and refused to listen to his sincere advice. They thought their worldly power would protect them, but they forgot that Allah, the Creator of all power, is far mightier. Their denial was not merely a rejection of a man; it was a rejection of the Creator Himself and His divine guidance.
A Call to Reflection and Faith:
Dear reader, ponder the fate of ʿĀd. They were among the most powerful nations on Earth, yet their power could not save them from the punishment of Allah when they persisted in their denial. This story is not just history; it is a timeless lesson for every generation. It teaches us that no matter how advanced, strong, or wealthy a society becomes, its true success lies in its connection to its Creator. The Messengers came to us as a mercy, guiding us to what is good for us in this life and the next. Rejecting them is rejecting our own well-being.
Let this verse inspire you to open your heart to the message of Islam. The call of all Prophets—from Adam to Noah, from Abraham to Moses, from Jesus to Muhammad (peace be upon them all)—is one and the same: submit to Allah and find true peace. Do not let pride, arrogance, or worldly distractions blind you as they blinded ʿĀd. Embrace the truth while there is still time, and you will find a life of purpose, tranquility, and ultimate success in the Hereafter. Allah loves those who turn to Him, and His mercy is vast for those who seek it sincerely.
