Translation — Tafsir
Word Meanings:
- Ajr (أَجْرٍ): Reward, recompense, or payment in return for a service.
- Rabbi al-'Alameen (رَبِّ الْعَالَمِينَ): The Lord of all the worlds—the Creator, Sustainer, and Sovereign of everything that exists.
Tafsir (Explanation):
In this verse, Prophet Hud (peace be upon him) addresses his people with a profound declaration of sincerity and selflessness. After calling them to worship Allah alone and warning them of His punishment, he makes it crystal clear that he seeks no worldly gain from his mission. He says: "I do not ask you for any reward for this guidance I bring you." His delivery of the divine message is not a transaction—he does not expect payment, favors, or material compensation from them.
Rather, his reward lies solely with Allah, the Lord of all the worlds. This statement carries a powerful message: the prophets of Allah were not preachers for profit, nor guides for gain. Their sole motive was the salvation of humanity and the pleasure of their Creator. By declaring this, Prophet Hud disarms any suspicion that his call was driven by personal ambition or greed, and he sets the highest standard of sincerity for all who invite others to the truth.
This verse also teaches us a timeless lesson: those who truly serve Allah’s cause do so out of love and devotion, not for the applause or compensation of people. Their trust is in Allah alone, who never fails to reward His sincere servants—in this life and the next.
A Call to Reflection:
Dear reader, reflect on the beauty of this prophetic character. Here is a man who stood alone against a mighty nation, enduring their rejection and ridicule, yet he asked nothing from them. His only concern was their welfare—that they might escape the torment of Allah and find peace in submission to Him.
This is the essence of Islam: sincerity, selflessness, and total reliance on Allah. When you embrace this faith, you are following the path of all the prophets—a path free from worldly corruption, a path that elevates the soul above petty desires. The Quran invites you to this pure, untainted message. Will you not respond to a call that seeks nothing but your own good? Will you not turn to a Lord who rewards beyond measure and loves those who worship Him sincerely?
Indeed, the reward of Allah is far greater and more enduring than anything this world can offer. So, like Prophet Hud, place your trust in Allah, seek His pleasure above all, and you will find a peace that transcends every trial of this life.
