Translation — Tafsir
Word Meanings:
- Al-'Arsh (الْعَرْشِ): The Throne of Allah, the greatest and most magnificent of all creations, which encompasses the heavens and the earth. It is the symbol of His absolute sovereignty and supreme authority.
- Al-'Azim (الْعَظِيمِ): The Mighty, the Tremendous — denoting the infinite greatness and majesty of the Throne, far beyond human comprehension.
Explanation of the Verse:
This verse stands as a powerful declaration of the purest monotheism (Tawheed). Allah — and Allah alone — is the only true deity worthy of worship. There is no god but Him, no partner with Him, and no rival to His divinity. Every act of worship, every prostration, and every prayer must be directed exclusively to Him.
The verse emphasizes that Allah is the Lord of the Mighty Throne — the greatest and most exalted of all creations. The Throne is not merely a physical entity; it represents the pinnacle of Allah's dominion and His complete control over all that exists. By attributing the Throne to Himself, Allah reminds us that His power, knowledge, and authority encompass everything — from the highest heavens to the deepest earth.
This declaration comes in the context of the story of Prophet Sulayman (peace be upon him) and the Queen of Sheba (Bilqis), who, along with her people, used to prostrate to the sun instead of Allah. The verse corrects this deviation by affirming that prostration and worship belong solely to Allah — the Creator of all things, the One who knows what is hidden in the heavens and the earth, and the One who brings forth what is concealed.
A Da'wah Reflection:
Dear reader, reflect on the magnificence of this statement. The Lord of the Mighty Throne — the One who holds the entire universe in His grasp — is the very One who invites you to know Him, worship Him, and draw near to Him. He does not need your worship; rather, it is you who needs His mercy, His guidance, and His forgiveness.
When you prostrate to Allah alone, you are not merely performing a ritual — you are aligning yourself with the truth of existence. Every atom in the heavens and the earth submits to His will; the sun, the moon, the stars, the trees, and the oceans all obey His command. By worshipping Him, you join the entire creation in its natural state of submission to its Creator.
So let your heart be filled with awe and love for the Lord of the Mighty Throne. Turn to Him in every moment of need, seek His guidance in every decision, and find peace in knowing that the One who governs the universe is also the One who hears your whispers and answers your prayers. There is no deity worthy of worship but Him — and that is the key to true success in this life and the Hereafter.
