Tafsir (Explanation):
This verse continues the narrative of Prophet Sulayman (peace be upon him) and the hoopoe bird, which reported to him about the people of Sheba (Saba) and their queen, who worshipped the sun instead of Allah. The verse explains that Satan had beautified their deeds of shirk (associating partners with Allah) and disobedience, making them appear attractive and reasonable in their eyes. The purpose of this deception was to prevent them from prostrating—humbling themselves in worship—to Allah alone.
Allah is the One Who brings forth the hidden from the heavens and the earth. From the heavens, He sends down rain that is stored in clouds, and from the earth, He brings forth vegetation, plants, and treasures that lie concealed beneath the soil. He alone knows the secrets of the unseen and the visible, the hidden intentions of the heart, and the open actions of the limbs. Nothing escapes His knowledge—not a whisper, not a thought, not a single deed, whether concealed or proclaimed.
This description of Allah's perfect attributes—His power to bring forth the hidden and His encompassing knowledge—establishes that He alone is worthy of worship and prostration. The verse concludes by affirming that Allah is the Lord of the Mighty Throne, the Supreme Sovereign, and there is no deity worthy of worship besides Him.
A Da'wah Reflection:
Dear reader, reflect on this profound truth: the same Allah who brings forth rain from the sky and plants from the earth is the One who knows every secret you carry in your heart. He sees the tears you hide, the struggles you conceal, and the good deeds you do in private. When you prostrate to Him—placing your forehead on the ground in humility—you are not worshipping a distant, unaware deity. You are bowing to the Lord of the Mighty Throne, the One who knows your innermost thoughts and still showers His mercy upon you. The sun that the people of Sheba worshipped is merely a created object—it rises and sets by His command, and it cannot hear your prayers or answer your calls. But Allah, the Creator of the sun and the heavens, is always near. He hears, He knows, and He responds. Let this knowledge fill your heart with love for Him, and let your prostration be a moment of true connection with the One who deserves all worship. Islam calls you to free yourself from the chains of blind imitation and false worship, and to submit to the only God worthy of your humility—the God who brings forth life from the dead earth and knows what is hidden in the depths of your soul.
