- Shāṭi’ (شاطئ): The bank or edge of the valley.
- Al-Ayman (الأيمن): The right side, meaning the side to the right of Prophet Musa (peace be upon him) as he approached.
- Al-Buq‘ah (البقعة): A piece of land or a spot of ground, distinct from its surroundings.
- Al-Mubārakah (المباركة): The blessed one, blessed because Allah chose it to speak directly to His Prophet.
- Al-Shajarah (الشجرة): The tree, from whose direction the divine call came.
Explanation of the Verse:
When Prophet Musa (peace be upon him) saw the fire from afar and set out toward it with hope and expectation, he reached that blessed spot. There, from the right bank of the valley—the side nearest to him—and from within the direction of a tree, Allah called out to him in a direct and majestic address: "O Musa, indeed I am Allah, the Lord of all the worlds."
This was not merely a call; it was the beginning of a divine appointment. The place was blessed because it became the site of direct communication between the Creator and His chosen servant. The tree, the valley, and the very ground were honored by this sacred moment. Allah introduced Himself to Musa with His greatest names—Allah, the One and Only God, and Rabb al-‘Ālamīn, the Lord and Sustainer of all that exists—so that Musa would know with certainty who was speaking to him and would stand before Him with awe, love, and confidence.
This moment marked the transformation of Musa from a man who had fled his homeland into a prophet and messenger of Allah, entrusted with a monumental mission. The call was clear, direct, and filled with mercy, preparing him for what was to come: the command to go to Pharaoh and the miracles that would support him.
A Call to Reflection and Faith:
Dear reader, imagine the scene: a man walking alone in the darkness of the night, seeking warmth from a fire he saw in the distance, only to find himself in the presence of the Lord of the heavens and the earth. This is the mercy of Allah—He does not leave His servants without guidance. Just as He called Musa from a tree, He calls upon you today through His Book, the Qur’an, and through the voice of your own heart when it yearns for truth.
Allah is not far from you. He is closer to you than your own jugular vein. He knows your struggles, your fears, and your hopes. When you turn to Him sincerely, He answers. When you seek Him, He reveals Himself to your heart. The same Lord who spoke to Musa is speaking to you now through His revelation, inviting you to know Him, to worship Him, and to find peace in His remembrance.
Let this verse inspire you to draw near to Allah, for He is always ready to receive you. No matter how far you have wandered, the door of His mercy is open. Respond to His call, just as Musa responded, and you will find that He is indeed the Lord of all the worlds—your Lord, your Protector, and your Guide.
