Translation — Tafsir
Word Meanings:
- وَصَّلْنَا (Wassalna): We delivered completely, continuously, and in succession — meaning the revelation was sent down progressively, connected in its themes and purposes.
- الْقَوْلَ (Al-Qawl): The Word — referring to the Qur'an and the divine messages contained within it.
- لَعَلَّهُمْ يَتَذَكَّرُونَ (La'allahum yatadhakkarun): So that they may reflect, remember, and take heed.
Explanation of the Verse:
In this profound verse, Allah the Most High addresses His Messenger ﷺ and all of humanity with a message of immense mercy and wisdom. Allah declares that He has delivered the Word — the Qur'an — to them in a complete, detailed, and continuous manner. This divine speech was not sent all at once as a disconnected text, but rather as a perfectly woven tapestry of guidance, revealed over time, addressing every situation, answering every question, and providing light for every darkness.
The verse specifically points to the disbelievers of Quraysh and the Jews of Banu Isra'il, as well as all who came before and after them. Allah presented to them the stories of previous nations — how the mighty were humbled, how the arrogant were destroyed, how the believers were saved — all as living lessons carved in the annals of history. The fate of 'Ad, Thamud, Pharaoh, and others who rejected their messengers stands as a perpetual warning.
Yet, the purpose behind this detailed delivery is not mere storytelling or entertainment. The ultimate goal is expressed in the closing words: "so that they may remember." This remembrance is not a passive recall but an active, transformative reflection — a turning of the heart toward the truth, a realization of the consequences of disbelief, and a sincere return to the Creator.
Allah, in His infinite mercy, did not leave humanity without guidance. He sent the Qur'an as a complete manual for life, unfolding its wisdom gradually so that hearts could absorb it, minds could comprehend it, and souls could be purified by it. Every verse, every story, every command and prohibition serves as a sign pointing toward the truth.
A Call to Reflection:
Dear reader, pause and consider: Allah has perfected His favor upon you by sending this glorious Qur'an. He has made its meanings accessible, its proofs clear, and its guidance comprehensive. The door of remembrance is wide open — will you walk through it? The Qur'an is not merely a book to be recited; it is a living invitation to reflect, to change, and to draw nearer to your Lord. Every time you open its pages, Allah is calling you to remember Him, to remember your purpose, and to remember the ultimate return to Him.
Let this verse inspire you to engage with the Qur'an not as a distant text, but as a personal message from your Creator to you. For when you truly remember, your heart softens, your vision clears, and you find the peace that only comes from submission to the One who knows what is best for you. This is the mercy of your Lord — He did not leave you to wander in darkness, but sent you a light that never fades.
