📖 English Meaning
So each We seized for his sin; and among them were those upon whom We sent a storm of stones, and among them were those who were seized by the blast [from the sky], and among them were those whom We caused the earth to swallow, and among them were those whom We drowned. And Allah would not have wronged them, but it was they who were wronging themselves.

Translation — Tafsir

Word Meanings:

(Hasiban): A violent wind that carries small stones and pebbles, striking and destroying everything in its path.
(As-Sayhah): The overwhelming, deafening blast or cry that seizes and destroys.
(Khasafna): To cause the earth to swallow something or someone, sinking them into the ground.

Tafsir (Explanation):

So Allah seized each of these nations with a punishment befitting their sin. Among them were the people of Lut, upon whom He sent a storm of stones—a devastating rain of baked clay that pelted them from above. Among them were the people of Salih and the people of Shu'ayb, who were overtaken by the mighty Sayhah—a terrifying blast that silenced their hearts and stilled their rebellion. Among them was Qarun, whose arrogance led Allah to command the earth to swallow him and his dwelling whole. And among them were the people of Nuh and the Pharaoh with his host, whom Allah drowned beneath the waves.

Allah did not wrong them in the least. He did not destroy them for the sins of others or punish them without cause. Rather, they wronged themselves—through their persistence in disbelief, their rejection of His messengers, and their indulgence in sin while enjoying His countless blessings. They brought destruction upon their own souls by their choices, and Allah's justice is perfect and absolute.

A Da'wah Reflection:

This verse carries a profound lesson for every soul: Allah's justice is never flawed, and His punishment never falls unjustly. When calamity strikes, it is a call to look inward—to examine our own deeds rather than blame fate. The nations before us were not destroyed except after clear warnings and repeated chances to repent. Yet they persisted, and so the consequence came.

Dear reader, let this be a reminder that Allah is patient and merciful, but His justice is certain. He gives us time, but He does not neglect. The door of repentance remains open for you today—so turn back to Him before the storm comes, before the blast sounds, before the earth swallows, or the waves rise. Do not be among those who wrong themselves, but be among those who hasten to His mercy and forgiveness. For Allah loves those who repent and purify themselves, and His mercy encompasses all things.

📜 Verse 38-42 — Al-'Ankabut

And [We destroyed] 'Aad and Thamud, and it has become clear to you from their [ruined] dwellings. And Satan had made pleasing to them their deeds and averted them from the path, and they were endowed with perception.
And [We destroyed] Qarun and Pharaoh and Haman. And Moses had already come to them with clear evidences, and they were arrogant in the land, but they were not outrunners [of Our punishment].
The example of those who take allies other than Allah is like that of the spider who takes a home. And indeed, the weakest of homes is the home of the spider, if they only knew.
Indeed, Allah knows whatever thing they call upon other than Him. And He is the Exalted in Might, the Wise.
