Tafsir (Explanation):
In this verse, Allah reminds us of the fate of three powerful figures who opposed His messengers: Qarun, Fir'awn, and Haman. Each of them was given wealth, authority, and influence beyond measure, yet they used these blessings to rebel against their Creator and oppress His servants.
Allah sent Moses to all three of them with undeniable miracles — signs that left no room for doubt. The staff that turned into a serpent, the hand that shone with radiant light, the parting of the sea, and the plagues that struck Egypt — these were not mere tricks but divine proofs that testified to the truth of Moses' message. Yet, despite witnessing these wonders, they responded with arrogance. They looked down upon the truth and refused to humble themselves before their Lord. Their pride filled the earth, and they believed their power and status would protect them forever.
But Allah makes it clear: they were not the ones who could outrun His punishment. No matter how fortified their palaces, how vast their treasures, or how mighty their armies, they could never escape the reach of Allah's decree. Their arrogance only hastened their destruction — Qarun was swallowed by the earth along with his treasures, and Fir'awn and Haman were drowned in the very sea they thought would save them.
This verse carries a profound lesson for every generation: worldly power, wealth, and status are fleeting illusions. They do not grant immunity from accountability. The One who created the heavens and the earth has absolute control over all things, and no tyrant, however great, can escape His justice. The story of these three men stands as an eternal warning — that arrogance before Allah is the surest path to ruin, while humility and submission to Him are the keys to salvation.
For the believer, this verse is both a comfort and a call to action. It comforts us by reminding us that no oppressor, no matter how powerful, escapes Allah's justice — even if their punishment is delayed, it is never abandoned. And it calls us to examine our own hearts: do we, too, harbor arrogance when we are blessed with wealth, knowledge, or authority? Do we forget that every blessing is a test from Allah? Let us learn from the downfall of these mighty men and strive to be among those who humble themselves before their Lord, for Allah has promised: "Indeed, the earth is Allah's; He causes to inherit it whom He wills of His servants, and the [best] outcome is for the righteous" (Al-A'raf: 128).
