Translation — Tafsir

Word Meanings:

  • Ghurafan (غُرَفًا): Lofty chambers, elevated rooms, or high mansions in Paradise.
  • Lanubawwi’annahum (لَنُبَوِّئَنَّهُم): We will surely settle them, establish them, or give them residence.
  • Khalidina fiha (خَالِدِينَ فِيهَا): Abiding therein forever, eternally, without end.

Explanation of the Verse:

This noble verse brings glad tidings to those who combine sincere faith with righteous deeds. Allah, the Most High, makes a solemn promise — emphasized with the emphatic particle "lan" (surely) — that He will settle such believers in elevated chambers within Paradise, from beneath which rivers flow continuously. These are not ordinary dwellings; they are lofty, magnificent mansions that reflect the honor and generosity of their Creator.

The verse describes two essential conditions for attaining this reward: *iman* (true faith in Allah, His Messenger, and what he brought) and *amal salih* (righteous deeds performed sincerely for Allah’s sake, following His command). Faith alone without action is incomplete, and action without faith is unacceptable. Both must be present, like two wings of a bird that enable it to soar toward the highest ranks.

The description of rivers flowing beneath these chambers adds to the beauty and tranquility of the scene — water, the source of life and purity, flowing endlessly beneath the believer’s eternal home. And then comes the ultimate declaration: "خَالِدِينَ فِيهَا" — they will remain there forever, never to leave, never to die, never to experience fatigue or boredom. This is eternal bliss with no interruption.

Finally, Allah praises this reward: "نِعْمَ أَجْرُ الْعَامِلِينَ" — How excellent is the reward for those who work [righteous deeds]! This is a divine commendation, affirming that the workers — those who strive in obedience, patience, and devotion — have earned the best of compensations.

A Call to Reflection and Action:

Dear believer, contemplate this magnificent promise! The Creator of the heavens and the earth, the One who never breaks His word, has personally guaranteed you a lofty chamber in Paradise if you believe and act righteously. This is not a vague hope but a certain promise from the Most Truthful.

So ask yourself: What are the righteous deeds you can increase today? A prayer offered on time, a kind word to a parent, a charity given secretly, a page of Qur’an recited, a sin abandoned for Allah’s sake — every small step of obedience brings you closer to those elevated chambers.

And know that the rivers flowing beneath those chambers are not like the rivers of this world — they are rivers of water, milk, honey, and wine that never spoil, flowing by the command of Allah for the enjoyment of His righteous servants. This is the ultimate success, the eternal happiness that no worldly pleasure can compare to.

So strive, O servant of Allah, with sincerity and patience, and let this divine promise be your motivation. For indeed, the reward of the workers is excellent, and Allah never wastes the reward of those who do good.

O My servants who have believed, indeed My earth is spacious, so worship only Me.

Who have been patient and upon their Lord rely.

And how many a creature carries not its [own] provision. Allah provides for it and for you. And He is the Hearing, the Knowing.
