Translation — Tafsir
Word Meanings:
- الَّذِينَ صَبَرُوا (Those who patiently persevered): They remained steadfast in obedience to Allah, restrained themselves from sin, and endured hardships, separation from homelands, and the harm of the polytheists.
- يَتَوَكَّلُونَ (They put their trust): They rely wholly and solely upon their Lord in all their affairs—seeking provision, facing enemies, and managing every matter of life.
Explanation of the Verse:
This noble verse describes the true believers who have earned the magnificent reward of the highest gardens of Paradise. They are the ones who exercised patience in worshiping Allah, clinging firmly to their faith despite trials and tribulations, and refraining from what He has forbidden. Their patience was not merely passive endurance; rather, it was an active, steadfast commitment to the path of righteousness—even when it meant leaving their homes, enduring the harm of disbelievers, and facing severe hardships.
Moreover, they combined their patience with complete reliance upon their Lord alone. They did not depend on their own strength, wealth, or status, nor did they place their hopes in created beings. Instead, they entrusted all their affairs to Allah—their sustenance, their struggles, and their ultimate success—knowing that He is the sole Provider, Protector, and Disposer of all matters. This beautiful pairing of patience and trust in Allah is the hallmark of true faith: patience keeps them firm on the path, while tawakkul (reliance on Allah) fills their hearts with peace and certainty that Allah will never abandon them.
A Call to Reflection:
Dear reader, contemplate the profound beauty of this verse. Allah is telling us that the key to His reward lies in two simple yet powerful qualities: patience and trust in Him. When you face trials in your life—whether it be difficulties in your livelihood, challenges in your faith, or harm from others—remember that these believers were promised Paradise precisely because they did not waver. They remained patient, and they placed their complete trust in their Lord.
Let this be an inspiration for you. No matter how heavy the burden, know that Allah sees your patience and will never let it go unrewarded. And when you feel weak or uncertain, turn to Him in complete reliance, for He is the Best of planners and the Most Merciful of those who show mercy. The gates of Paradise are open for those who combine steadfast patience with sincere trust in Allah—so strive to be among them, and you will surely find His promise true.
