Translation — Tafsir
Word Meanings:
- سَتُغْلَبُونَ (saturated with the meaning of being overcome): You will be defeated and overpowered.
- تُحْشَرُونَ (from حشر): You will be gathered and driven forth.
- جَهَنَّمَ (Jahannam): Hellfire, the abode of punishment.
- الْمِهَادُ (from مهد): A bed, resting place, or cradle; here it refers to a place of repose.
Tafsir (Explanation):
O Messenger, declare openly to those who have rejected faith—whether from the People of the Book or the disbelievers of Quraysh who mocked your victory at Badr—that their arrogance will soon collapse. They shall be defeated in this worldly life, humiliated before the eyes of all, and then they shall die upon their disbelief, only to be gathered on the Day of Resurrection and driven forcibly toward the blazing Fire of Jahannam. That Fire will be their eternal resting place, and what an evil and dreadful bed it is!
This verse carries a profound promise and a stern warning. It reassures the believers that truth always prevails over falsehood, no matter how powerful the forces of disbelief may appear. The defeat at Badr was not merely a military event—it was a divine sign that Allah grants victory to His sincere servants. Yet, the verse also turns the disbelievers' attention to the greater reality: even if they escape worldly punishment, they cannot escape the Hereafter. The gathering (hashr) is inevitable, and the destination for those who persist in rejection is a fire whose torment is beyond imagination.
Da'wah Reflection:
Dear reader, reflect on the certainty of this divine promise. The One who spoke these words is the same Lord who created the heavens and the earth, and His word never fails. If you find yourself distant from Allah, know that His door of repentance is always open—but do not delay, for death comes suddenly. The disbelievers were given chances, yet they chose arrogance. Let this verse be a wake-up call: the victory of Islam is guaranteed, and the only question is where you will stand on that Day. Will you be among the victorious believers, or among those driven to that dreadful bed? Choose now, before the choice is taken from you. Embrace the mercy of Allah, for He loves those who turn back to Him, and He has prepared for His righteous servants what no eye has seen, no ear has heard, and no human heart has ever conceived.
