Key Words and Their Meanings:

  • A'imma (أَئِمَّةً): Leaders, guides, or exemplars whom people follow.
  • Yahdoon (يَهْدُونَ): They guide, lead, or direct others toward truth and righteousness.
  • Bi Amrina (بِأَمْرِنَا): By Our command — meaning with Allah’s permission, will, and divine support.
  • Lamma Sabaroo (لَمَّا صَبَرُوا): When they showed patience and steadfastness.
  • Yooqinoon (يُوقِنُونَ): They have certain, unwavering faith and conviction.

Explanation of the Verse:

In this profound verse, Allah (Glorious and Exalted) speaks of the Children of Israel, telling us that He raised from among them leaders and guides — imams of righteousness — who directed people toward the truth and called them to the worship of Allah alone. These were not mere scholars or preachers; they were divinely appointed exemplars whose words and actions carried weight, and whose lives became a living testimony to the faith. They guided people by Allah’s command, meaning their guidance was not from their own desires or personal opinions, but from divine revelation and divine will, and Allah strengthened them and granted them authority in this mission.

What was the secret of their elevation to this noble rank? The verse answers clearly: "When they showed patience" — they endured hardship, remained steadfast in obeying Allah’s commands, avoided His prohibitions, and bore the harm and persecution they faced while calling others to the path of Allah. Patience was their shield and their ladder to leadership. They did not waver in the face of trials, nor did they compromise their principles for worldly gain. And alongside this patience, "they were certain of Our signs" — they possessed deep, unshakeable conviction in Allah’s verses and proofs, having pondered them thoroughly until their hearts were filled with certainty, not mere conjecture or blind imitation.

This verse carries a timeless lesson for every believer: leadership in religion is not achieved through status, wealth, or lineage, but through patience and certainty. Whoever combines these two qualities — steadfastness in obedience and firm conviction in Allah’s signs — Allah will elevate them, and He will make them a source of guidance for others. The path to becoming an imam of goodness is open to every sincere servant who is willing to pay the price of patience and nurture the seed of certainty in their heart.

A Call to Reflection and Action:

Dear Muslim brother and sister, look at this magnificent divine promise: Allah made ordinary people from the Children of Israel into leaders of nations simply because they were patient and certain. The same Allah who did this for them is alive and capable of doing the same for you. Your patience in the face of trials, your steadfastness in prayer, your perseverance in seeking knowledge, your endurance in calling others to goodness — none of this is wasted in Allah’s sight. And your certainty in Allah’s signs — in the Qur’an, in the universe, in the promise of Paradise and the threat of Hell — will transform your heart and elevate your rank. So be patient, strengthen your conviction, and trust that Allah, who raised those before you, will not forget you. The door to leadership in goodness is open — will you walk through it with patience and certainty?

📜 Verse 22-26 — As-Sajdah

And who is more unjust than one who is reminded of the verses of his Lord; then he turns away from them? Indeed We, from the criminals, will take retribution.
And We certainly gave Moses the Scripture, so do not be in doubt over his meeting. And we made the Torah guidance for the Children of Israel.
And We made from among them leaders guiding by Our command when they were patient and [when] they were certain of Our signs.
Indeed, your Lord will judge between them on the Day of Resurrection concerning that over which they used to differ.
Has it not become clear to them how many generations We destroyed before them, [as] they walk among their dwellings? Indeed in that are signs; then do they not hear?
