Translation — Tafsir
Key Words and Their Meanings:
- Naslahu (نَسْلَهُ): His offspring or descendants.
- Sulalah (سُلَالَةٍ): An extract or essence; something drawn out and refined from a larger substance.
- Ma’in (مَاءٍ مَّهِينٍ): Weak, humble, and despised fluid—referring to the seminal fluid.
Explanation of the Verse:
After mentioning the creation of Adam (peace be upon him) from clay, Allah now turns to the origin of his descendants. He says: *"Then He made his offspring from an extract of a weak fluid."* This means that after creating Adam directly with His own hands, Allah decreed that all of Adam’s progeny would come into existence through a completely different process—one that reflects human frailty and dependence on Allah.
The word *sulalah* indicates something that is drawn out or extracted, just as the seminal fluid is extracted from the depths of a person’s being. And this fluid is described as *ma’in*—weak, humble, and insignificant. It is a substance that, by itself, has no power, no beauty, and no value. Yet, from this humble beginning, Allah creates a complete human being with eyes, ears, a heart, a mind, and a soul.
This verse invites us to reflect deeply on our own origins. We were not created from gold or precious stones, but from a drop of fluid that is easily spilled and quickly forgotten. This should fill us with humility and gratitude. If Allah could create such a magnificent being from such a weak beginning, then nothing is impossible for Him. And if our beginning was so humble, then we have no reason to be arrogant or proud—our existence is a continuous miracle of Allah’s mercy and power.
A Call to Reflection and Faith:
Dear reader, pause for a moment and think: you are reading these words right now, seeing with your eyes, thinking with your mind—all of which were formed from that same weak fluid. Who gave you this strength? Who shaped you in the womb and brought you into this world? It is Allah, the All-Wise, the All-Powerful.
This verse is not just a statement of fact; it is a divine invitation to know your Lord. When you realize how weak your origin was, you will understand how great His power is. When you see how He transformed that weakness into strength, you will trust that He can transform your struggles into ease, your sins into forgiveness, and your death into eternal life.
So, do not look down on yourself because of your humble beginnings. Instead, look up to Allah with gratitude and submission. He who created you from a weak fluid will also resurrect you after death—so prepare for that meeting by living a life of faith, obedience, and love for your Creator. Indeed, in this simple verse lies a profound lesson for every soul that seeks the truth.
