Translation — Tafsir
Word Meanings:
- Tubdū (تُبْدُوا): To reveal, disclose, or make something apparent—whether by speech or action.
- Tukhfūhu (تُخْفُوهُ): To conceal it, hide it within oneself, or keep it secret in the heart.
- ʿAlīm (عَلِيم): All-Knowing, the One whose knowledge encompasses everything—the seen, the unseen, the spoken, and the unspoken.
Tafsir (Explanation):
O people, whether you openly say something—such as words that could hurt the Prophet (peace be upon him) or violate what Allah has commanded—or you keep it hidden deep within your hearts, Allah knows it all. Nothing escapes His knowledge: not a single word that passes your lips, not a thought that crosses your mind, not even the faintest intention that lingers in your soul. This verse comes as a profound reminder that Allah’s knowledge is absolute and all-encompassing. He is fully aware of every deed you perform, whether done in public or in private, and He is equally aware of what you conceal within yourselves—your motives, your desires, and your hidden inclinations. And because His knowledge is perfect, His justice is perfect too: He will reward you for every good you do, whether apparent or hidden, and He will hold you to account for every evil, whether you revealed it or kept it secret. This is not a threat to instill fear alone, but a call to consciousness—a reminder that you are always in the presence of the All-Knowing, and that your relationship with Him is built on sincerity, for He sees what no one else can see and knows what no one else can know.
Da‘wah Reflection:
How beautiful is this verse in drawing a believer closer to Allah! It tells you that you are never alone, never unnoticed, and never forgotten. The One who created you knows your struggles, your silent prayers, and even the thoughts you are too shy to utter. So let this knowledge fill your heart with hope: when you do good in secret, Allah sees it and will never let it go to waste. And when you slip into error, even if no one knows, Allah knows—and His door of repentance is always open. Let this awareness transform you: speak only what is good, think only what is pure, and act only what is righteous, for you are always in the sight of the All-Knowing, who loves those who are sincere and rewards them beyond what they can imagine.
