Translation — Tafsir
Word Meanings:
- "Innahu" — Indeed, he (referring to Prophet Elias/Elijah, peace be upon him).
- "Min 'ibadina" — Among Our servants.
- "Al-mu'minin" — The believers (those who have sincere faith and act upon it).
Explanation of the Verse:
This verse comes as a divine seal of praise upon Prophet Elias (Elijah), peace be upon him, after Allah mentioned his noble qualities and his steadfast call to his people. Allah declares: "Indeed, he was among Our believing servants."
This is a profound testimony from the Lord of the Worlds about the faith of His prophet. Elias was not merely a believer in name, but one whose faith was deeply rooted in his heart, manifested in his actions, and proven through his patience and perseverance in conveying the message of monotheism to a people who rejected him. His faith was sincere, complete, and unwavering — he believed in Allah with certainty, worshipped Him alone, and submitted fully to His command.
The verse emphasizes that true faith is the foundation of all prophetic excellence. Before mentioning any of Elias's miracles or his struggle against idolatry, Allah highlights the essence of his character: his belief. This teaches us that faith is the greatest honor a servant can attain, and it is the quality that elevates human beings to the ranks of Allah's chosen ones.
A Call to Reflection and Action:
Dear Muslim, when Allah praises His prophets, He praises them primarily for their faith. This is a beautiful reminder that your value in the sight of Allah is not measured by wealth, status, or worldly achievements — but by the sincerity and strength of your faith. Just as Elias was honored with Allah's commendation for his belief, you too can earn Allah's love and praise by nurturing your faith, purifying your heart, and acting upon what you believe.
Let this verse inspire you to examine your own faith. Is it a faith that moves you to obedience? Is it a faith that gives you patience in hardship? Is it a faith that makes you stand firm for truth even when others oppose you? The believers whom Allah praises are those whose faith transforms their lives and brings them closer to their Creator.
And know that Allah's reward for His believing servants is not limited to this world — it extends to eternal bliss in the Hereafter. So strive to be among those whom Allah describes with this noble attribute, and you will surely find His mercy, His love, and His eternal pleasure.
