Word Meanings:

  • Sulṭān (سُلْطَان): Authority, power, or compelling proof that could force someone against their will.
  • Ṭāghīn (طَاغِين): Those who transgress beyond all bounds, exceeding the limits of truth and righteousness.

Explanation of the Verse:

In this verse, the misguided leaders of disbelief address their followers in the Hereafter, clarifying their own innocence and exposing the true responsibility of those who followed them. They say: "We had no authority or power over you to compel you into disbelief or sin. We did not force you, nor did we possess any proof that could have genuinely misled you. Rather, you yourselves were a people who chose to transgress and exceed all limits in arrogance, stubbornness, and deviation from the truth."

This statement is a profound reminder that every soul bears the weight of its own choices. The leaders of misguidance admit that their influence was merely through deception and falsehood, not through any real coercion. The followers, on the other hand, are held accountable because they willingly embraced falsehood, abandoned their God-given intellect, and preferred their desires over the clear signs of truth.

A Call to Reflection:

Dear reader, this verse carries a timeless lesson for every human being. On the Day of Judgment, no one will be able to excuse themselves by blaming others for their misguidance. Allah, in His perfect justice, has granted you intellect, free will, and countless signs—both in the universe and in His revealed Book—to guide you toward the truth. The path of faith is open to all who sincerely seek it, and no tyrant or deceiver can truly force you away from it unless you willingly comply.

So, take hold of this precious opportunity in your life today. Do not let arrogance, blind following, or the fleeting pleasures of this world make you a "transgressor" like those described in this verse. Turn to your Lord with humility, seek His guidance through the Qur'an and the authentic teachings of His Prophet Muhammad (peace be upon him), and be among those who choose the path of light over darkness. For on that Day, every soul will stand alone before its Creator, and only those who followed the truth with sincerity will find peace and eternal success.

📜 Verse 28-32 — As-Saffat

They will say, "Indeed, you used to come at us from the right."
The oppressors will say, "Rather, you [yourselves] were not believers,
And we had over you no authority, but you were a transgressing people.
So the word of our Lord has come into effect upon us; indeed, we will taste [punishment].
And we led you to deviation; indeed, we were deviators."
