Translation — Tafsir
Word Meanings:
- فَحَقَّ (fa-ḥaqqa): It became certain, inevitable, and binding.
- قَوْلُ رَبِّنَا (qawlu rabbinā): The word and promise of our Lord.
- لَذَائِقُونَ (ladhāʾiqūn): We will surely taste and experience (the punishment).
Explanation of the Verse:
In this verse, the speakers are the leaders of disbelief and misguidance who are addressing their followers in the midst of the Hellfire, confessing their shared responsibility and fate. They acknowledge that the decree of their Lord has become absolutely binding upon them — the promise of punishment that was communicated through the messengers and revealed in the scriptures. This is a reference to Allah’s solemn declaration: *“I will surely fill Hell with you and with those who follow you among them, all together”* (Surah Sad, 38:85).
The phrase *“Indeed, we are ones who will taste [the punishment]”* is an admission of certainty — there is no escape, no intercession, and no delay. Both the leaders and the followers, the oppressors and those who obeyed them in falsehood, will all share in tasting the torment. This is the direct consequence of the sins and disobedience they committed in the worldly life — they rejected the truth, mocked the messengers, and persisted in arrogance until death overtook them.
This verse carries a profound lesson for every human being: the word of Allah is true, His promises are certain, and His warnings are not to be taken lightly. The people of Hell themselves bear witness to this reality, but their confession comes too late — after the opportunity for repentance has passed.
A Call to Reflection and Action:
Dear reader, let this verse be a wake-up call for your heart before it is too late. The people of the Fire did not believe they would end up there; they were deceived by their desires, their wealth, and their false sense of security. But when the truth became clear, they could only admit their fate with regret.
Allah, in His infinite mercy, has opened the door of repentance for you right now — in this very moment. He says: *“Say, O My servants who have transgressed against themselves, do not despair of the mercy of Allah. Indeed, Allah forgives all sins”* (Surah Az-Zumar, 39:53). Do not wait until you are among those who taste the punishment. Return to your Lord today, with a sincere heart, and you will find Him forgiving, merciful, and loving. The choice is yours — and the time is now.
