- أَشْرَكْتَ (ashrakta): You associate partners (with Allah).

Explanation of the Verse:
This verse carries a profound and decisive message, addressed directly to the Prophet Muhammad (peace be upon him) and, through him, to all of humanity. Allah (Glorified and Exalted be He) declares that He has made a solemn and clear revelation not only to Prophet Muhammad but to every single messenger who came before him, from Adam to Jesus (peace be upon them all). This is a universal, unchanging law of Allah that applies to every prophet and every believer: If you were to associate any partner with Allah in worship—whether in His essence, His attributes, or His right to be worshipped alone—then all of your good deeds would be rendered completely void and worthless.
The word "ḥabaṭa" (to become void) is powerful; it means that the reward and acceptance of one's deeds would be completely annihilated, as if they had never existed. No amount of prayer, charity, fasting, or good conduct would be of any benefit if tainted by the sin of shirk (polytheism). Furthermore, the verse warns that such a person would be among the total losers—those who lose their religion, their worldly efforts, and their eternal afterlife, ending up in utter ruin and deserving of Allah's punishment.
This is the ultimate declaration of the absolute purity of Tawheed (the Oneness of Allah). It establishes that the very foundation of all accepted deeds is sincere monotheism. If the foundation is corrupted, the entire building collapses. Even the best of deeds, if mixed with shirk, are rejected.
A Call to the Reader:
O beloved servant of Allah, reflect deeply on the gravity of this message. If the greatest of Allah's creation—the prophets—were warned about the consequences of shirk, then how much more careful must we, as ordinary believers, be? This verse is not just a historical statement; it is a living, breathing reminder for you and me today. It calls us to purify our hearts, our intentions, and our actions so that they are solely for the sake of Allah alone.
Let this be a source of immense hope and motivation: your deeds are precious to Allah, and He wants them to be accepted and rewarded. Therefore, guard your Tawheed like a precious treasure. In every moment of your life, renew your intention and ensure that your love, your fear, your hope, and your worship are directed to Allah alone. When you do this, your deeds become weighty on the scales, your heart finds true peace, and you secure a place among the successful ones who will never know loss. Embrace the purity of Islam, for it is the key to eternal success and the ultimate protection from being among the losers.
