Translation — Tafsir
Messengers as bearers of good tidings and as warners, so that mankind will have no argument against Allah after the messengers. And ever is Allah Exalted in Might and Wise.
Key Words and Their Meanings:
- Mubashshireen (مُبَشِّرِينَ): Those who convey glad tidings — announcing the reward of Paradise and Allah’s mercy to those who believe and do righteous deeds.
- Munthireen (مُنذِرِينَ): Those who warn — cautioning against disbelief, sin, and the punishment of Hellfire.
- Hujjah (حُجَّة): A decisive argument, proof, or excuse that one could present in defense of oneself.
- Azeez (عَزِيزًا): The Almighty, the All-Powerful — the One whose will cannot be overcome and whose decree none can repel.
- Hakeem (حَكِيمًا): The All-Wise — the One who places everything in its perfect place and whose actions are founded upon profound wisdom.
The Interpretation:
Allah, in His infinite mercy and perfect wisdom, sent messengers throughout human history — from the first prophet to the final Messenger, Muhammad (peace be upon him). These noble messengers carried two essential messages: they gave glad tidings of eternal bliss to those who believe, obey, and draw near to their Lord, and they delivered stern warnings of painful punishment to those who reject faith, persist in sin, and turn away from guidance.
Why did Allah do this? The verse answers with a profound purpose: so that no human being on the Day of Judgment could stand before Allah and claim, "We did not know! No one came to guide us! We were left without any means of knowing the truth!" By sending messengers, Allah closed every door of excuse and removed every possible justification for disbelief. No one will be able to say, "If only a warner had come to us, we would have followed Your guidance." The messengers came — they delivered the message, showed the way, and left humanity with no argument against their Creator.
This verse also teaches us a beautiful truth: Allah does not punish anyone without first sending guidance. His justice is perfect — He never holds people accountable for what they were never informed of. The sending of messengers is itself a manifestation of Allah's mercy and fairness.
And Allah is Al-Azeez — His might is absolute, and His decree prevails over all. He is not compelled by anyone to do anything; rather, He sent the messengers out of His own grace and wisdom. And He is Al-Hakeem — His wisdom is perfect in every aspect of this arrangement. He knew that humanity needed guidance, so He provided it in the most complete and fitting manner.
A Call to Reflection:
Dear reader, ponder deeply upon this verse. The fact that you are reading these words today is itself a fulfillment of Allah's promise — the message has reached you. The messengers came, the books were revealed, and the truth is clear. You now stand at a crossroads: will you accept the glad tidings and be among the blessed, or will you ignore the warnings and face the consequences? Allah has left you no excuse. He has shown you the path of light. The choice is yours — and the reward is beyond imagination for those who choose well. Let this awareness fill your heart with gratitude and your soul with determination to live by the guidance that has reached you, for indeed, Allah loves those who strive in His cause and has prepared for them gardens beneath which rivers flow, wherein they will abide forever.
