Word Meanings:

  • Fir‘awn (Pharaoh): The tyrannical ruler of Egypt during the time of Prophet Musa (Moses), peace be upon him.
  • Hamān: The chief minister and close advisor to Pharaoh, known for his arrogance and support of Pharaoh’s tyranny.
  • Qārūn (Korah): A wealthy man from the people of Israel who was among the most affluent of his time; his immense treasures and arrogance led him to side with Pharaoh against Musa.
  • Sāḥir (Sorcerer): One who practices magic; they accused Musa of using sorcery to deceive people.
  • Kadhdhāb (Liar): One who speaks falsehood; they claimed Musa was lying in his claim of prophethood.

Explanation of the Verse:

In this noble verse, Allah Almighty tells us that He sent His Messenger Musa, peace be upon him, with clear signs and undeniable proofs to three powerful figures of his time: Pharaoh, the ruler of Egypt; Haman, his chief minister; and Qarun, the wealthy man who possessed great treasures. These three were the most influential and arrogant leaders of their society, and they represented different forms of power: political authority, administrative control, and material wealth.

When Musa, peace be upon him, delivered the message of monotheism and called them to worship Allah alone, they rejected him with arrogance and pride. Instead of reflecting on the truth of his message and the miracles he brought, they responded by accusing him of being a sorcerer who deceived people with his staff, and a liar in his claim that he was a messenger sent by Allah. They said: "He is a sorcerer, a liar" — meaning that his miracles were mere magic, and his message was falsehood.

The mention of Haman and Qarun specifically highlights their prominent roles in spreading disbelief and opposing the truth. They were not mere followers; rather, they were leaders of corruption who used their positions and resources to fight against the call of Allah. Their accusation of Musa being a sorcerer and a liar was a desperate attempt to undermine his credibility and turn people away from him, even though they knew in their hearts that what he brought was the truth.

A Call to Reflection and Faith:

Dear reader, ponder over this scene: the greatest powers of that era — a king with his army, a minister with his authority, and a wealthy man with his treasures — all stood against one man who carried nothing but the truth from his Lord. Yet, in the end, it was the truth that prevailed, and their falsehood was destroyed. Pharaoh and Haman were drowned in the sea, and Qarun was swallowed by the earth with his treasures.

This teaches us a profound lesson: worldly power, wealth, and status are nothing before the power of Allah. No matter how strong the oppressors may seem, their end is destruction, while the believers who hold fast to the truth are granted victory and honor. So, do not be deceived by the glitter of this world, and do not fear the tyrants of the earth. Place your trust in Allah, for He is the Best of Protectors and the Most Merciful of those who show mercy. Let this verse strengthen your faith and remind you that the final victory belongs to the righteous.

📜 Verse 22-26 — Ghafir

That was because their messengers were coming to them with clear proofs, but they disbelieved, so Allah seized them. Indeed, He is Powerful and severe in punishment.
And We did certainly send Moses with Our signs and a clear authority
To Pharaoh, Haman and Qarun; but they said, "[He is] a magician and a liar."
And when he brought them the truth from Us, they said, "Kill the sons of those who have believed with him and keep their women alive." But the plan of the disbelievers is not except in error.
And Pharaoh said, "Let me kill Moses and let him call upon his Lord. Indeed, I fear that he will change your religion or that he will cause corruption in the land."
