Tafsir (Explanation):
In this verse, Allah continues describing what He would have granted the disbelievers had it not been for the fear of leading the believers into temptation. He says: "And gold" — meaning, We would have made for them houses with doors of silver, couches to recline upon, and ornaments of gold. But then Allah immediately corrects any false impression about the value of such things: "And all that is nothing but the enjoyment of the worldly life."
This is a profound reminder that everything this world offers — its wealth, its luxury, its glittering gold and silver — is merely a fleeting comfort, a temporary provision that vanishes like a passing shadow. It is not the true goal or the real prize. The disbeliever may enjoy these things in abundance, but they are like a mirage in the desert: seemingly satisfying, yet leaving one thirsty and empty.
Then comes the decisive contrast: "And the Hereafter with your Lord is for the righteous." The eternal bliss of Paradise — the gardens beneath which rivers flow, the everlasting mansions, the pure companions, and the vision of Allah's noble Face — is reserved exclusively for the muttaqin: those who live their lives in constant awareness of Allah, who guard their prayers, restrain their desires, and walk the path of righteousness even when it is difficult.
The message here is both a warning and an invitation. It warns that the glitter of this world can deceive the heart, making one forget the eternal home. It invites the believer to look beyond the temporary and invest in what truly lasts. The Prophet ﷺ said: "The world is a prison for the believer and a paradise for the disbeliever" (Muslim). So do not envy the wealth of those who have no share in the Hereafter — for their joy is short, while yours is everlasting.
O servant of Allah! If you desire the true treasure, then seek it through taqwa — through sincere faith, righteous deeds, and a heart attached to its Creator. For the gold of this world tarnishes and fades, but the reward of Paradise never diminishes, and its pleasures never end. Choose the eternal over the fleeting, and you will find that Allah has prepared for His righteous servants what no eye has seen, no ear has heard, and no human heart can imagine.
