Key Words and Their Meanings:
- Dhikr (ذِكْرٌ): Here it means honor, nobility, and a reminder. It signifies something that elevates one's status and serves as a guiding remembrance.
- Laka wa li-qawmika (لَكَ وَلِقَوْمِكَ): For you (O Prophet) and for your people — specifically the Quraysh, as the Quran was revealed in their language.
- Tus'alun (تُسْأَلُونَ): You will be asked, questioned, or held accountable.
Explanation of the Verse:
This verse carries a profound and uplifting message. Allah (Glorified and Exalted be He) addresses His Prophet Muhammad (peace be upon him) and his people, the Quraysh, declaring that this Quran is a great honor and distinction for them. It was revealed in their own eloquent Arabic tongue, making them the most capable of understanding its meanings, grasping its wisdom, and appreciating its miraculous nature. This honor, however, comes with a tremendous responsibility: they are to be the foremost in believing in it, acting upon its teachings, and conveying its message to all of humanity.
The verse then delivers a gentle yet firm reminder: you will all be questioned on the Day of Judgment. You will be asked about how you responded to this divine gift — whether you were grateful for it, whether you believed in it, whether you followed its guidance, and whether you called others to it. This questioning is not a threat to instill fear alone, but a call to awaken the conscience and to realize that every blessing from Allah carries with it a duty. The Quran is not merely a book to be recited; it is a covenant to be honored.
A Da'wah Reflection:
Dear reader, ponder the immense honor Allah has bestowed upon the Arab nation, and indeed upon all of humanity, through this Quran. It is a living miracle that speaks to every generation and every heart. When you open its pages, you are not just reading words — you are engaging with the direct speech of your Creator. This verse invites you to feel a sense of pride in belonging to a faith that elevates its followers, but more importantly, it urges you to ask yourself: "What is my relationship with this Quran?" Is it a source of guidance in my daily decisions? Do I strive to understand it and live by it? The Prophet (peace be upon him) was told that he and his people would be asked about it — and so will we all. Let this be a motivation to strengthen your bond with the Book of Allah, to recite it with reflection, to implement its commands, and to share its beauty with others. For the one who honors the Quran, Allah will honor them in this life and the next. And the one who neglects it will find it as a witness against them on the Day when no intercession will avail without Allah's permission. Seize this moment to renew your commitment to the Quran, for it is your light in the darkness, your comfort in hardship, and your key to eternal success.
