Translation — Tafsir
Word Meanings:
- As-wirah (أَسْوِرَة): Bracelets or armlets made of gold, worn as ornaments of honor and authority.
- Muqtarinin (مُقْتَرِنِينَ): Coming in succession, one after another, or paired together in a procession.
Tafsir (Interpretation):
The disbelievers of Pharaoh’s court, in their arrogance and stubbornness, raised a frivolous objection against the Prophet Musa (Moses, peace be upon him). They said: "If this man truly claims to be a messenger from the Lord of all worlds, then why has he not been given bracelets of gold to adorn him as a sign of honor and status? And why have angels not accompanied him, walking in a grand procession, one after another, to bear witness to his truthfulness?"
Their words reveal a deep misunderstanding of prophethood. They measured the truth of a divine message by worldly standards—wealth, adornment, and visible splendor—rather than by the power of the message itself and the miracles that accompanied it. They failed to see that Musa (peace be upon him) had already been granted far greater signs: the staff that transformed into a serpent, the shining hand, and the clear miracles that defied all natural laws. Yet, their hearts were sealed, and they demanded signs that suited their own limited imagination, not the wisdom of Allah.
This verse serves as a timeless lesson for humanity: the value of a prophet or a believer is not determined by material riches or outward appearances, but by the truth they carry and the sincerity of their call. Allah, in His infinite wisdom, chose His messengers from among ordinary people, without worldly grandeur, so that their message would stand on its own merit—pure, untainted, and accessible to all.
A Call to Reflection:
Dear reader, let this verse inspire you to look beyond the superficial. How often do we judge people, ideas, or even faith by outward signs—wealth, status, or appearance—while neglecting the essence within? Islam teaches us to value sincerity, knowledge, and righteousness above all else. The greatest honor is not in gold bracelets or angelic processions, but in the light of faith that illuminates the heart and guides one to the straight path. Embrace this beautiful religion, for it calls you to a treasure far greater than any worldly ornament: the pleasure of Allah and the eternal bliss of Paradise.
