Translation — Tafsir

Word Meanings:

  • صُبُّوا (pour): to pour or pour out a liquid.
  • فَوْقَ رَأْسِهِ (above his head): on top of his head, from above.
  • الْحَمِيمِ (the scalding water): water that has reached the utmost degree of heat, boiling and burning.

Explanation of the Verse:

After the sinful one is seized and dragged into the depths of Hell, the torment continues without a moment's respite. The command is given to the keepers of Hell to pour, from above his head, the most intensely boiling water — water that has reached the peak of heat and burns like fire itself. This scalding liquid cascades down upon his head, flowing over his entire body, searing his skin and penetrating to his very core. The torment is not limited to one part of his body; it encompasses him entirely, and he is never freed from this punishment — it clings to him relentlessly, moment after moment, with no relief and no end.

This verse paints a vivid picture of the fate that awaits those who reject the truth and persist in arrogance and wrongdoing. The punishment is not merely physical but also psychological — the humiliation of having boiling water poured over one's head, the most honored part of the human body, in front of all the inhabitants of Hell. It is a punishment that combines intense physical pain with profound disgrace.

A Call to Reflection:

Dear reader, let this imagery awaken your heart. The One who created you in the best of forms, who honored you with intellect and guidance, does not wish for you to suffer this fate. He has sent His messengers and revealed His books out of mercy, to guide you to the path of eternal happiness. The choice is yours: will you be among those who heed the warning and turn to their Lord in repentance, or will you be among those who wait until it is too late? The door of repentance is open, and Allah's mercy is vast — He forgives all sins for those who turn back to Him sincerely. Do not let a moment pass without reflecting on your relationship with your Creator, for the Hereafter is nearer than you think, and the bliss of Paradise is far greater than any pleasure this world can offer. May Allah guide us all to the straight path and protect us from the torment of the Fire.
