Translation — Tafsir
Word Meanings:
- Iftarāhu (افتراه): He fabricated it or invented it falsely, attributing it to Allah without any basis.
- Tufīḍūna (تفِيضُونَ): You plunge into, engage in, or spread extensively — referring here to their constant talk and accusations against the Qur'an.
- Shahīdan (شهيدًا): A witness who testifies with full knowledge and justice.
Tafsir (Explanation):
Do these polytheists really say that Muhammad (peace be upon him) has fabricated this Qur'an and falsely attributed it to Allah? This is a staggering claim, utterly devoid of reason. Let them ponder: if he had indeed fabricated it, would he not be deserving of Allah's punishment? And if Allah were to punish him for such a crime, could they — with all their power and numbers — protect him from Allah's wrath in the slightest? Absolutely not. No one can shield another from Allah's decree. So why would a man of such honesty and integrity, known throughout his life as "Al-Amin" (the Trustworthy), risk eternal ruin by inventing a lie against his Creator?
Allah, in His infinite knowledge, knows exactly what they are plunging into — their mockery, their accusations, their relentless attacks against the Qur'an and the Prophet. Nothing they say is hidden from Him. He is the ultimate Witness between the Prophet and them: He bears witness to the truth of the Prophet's message and to their falsehood. His testimony is sufficient — no other witness is needed, for His knowledge encompasses all things, both what is spoken and what is concealed in the hearts.
And then comes the most beautiful and merciful turn: even after all their hostility and slander, Allah introduces Himself as Al-Ghafūr (The Oft-Forgiving) and Ar-Raḥīm (The Most Merciful). This is not a coincidence — it is an open door, an invitation. It is as if Allah is saying: "No matter how far you have gone in your rejection and your accusations, My mercy is greater. Return to Me, and I will forgive you. I am not quick to punish; I am quick to forgive." This is the essence of Islam — a religion that calls even its harshest critics to repentance, reminding them that the door of mercy is never locked, no matter how many times they have knocked with the wrong hand.
Dear reader, reflect on this profound truth: the Qur'an is not a human invention — it is a divine revelation whose beauty, depth, and consistency defy any human authorship. And the One who sent it down is not a vengeful tyrant, but a Lord whose mercy embraces all who turn to Him. So why not respond to His call today? Why not leave behind the accusations and embrace the truth that your own heart already recognizes? The witness is clear, the evidence is overwhelming, and the door of forgiveness is wide open.
