Translation Transliteration — Al-Ahqaf

وَإِذَا تُتْلَىٰ عَلَيْهِمْ آيَاتُنَا بَيِّنَاتٍ قَالَ الَّذِينَ كَفَرُوا لِلْحَقِّ لَمَّا جَاءَهُمْ هَٰذَا سِحْرٌ مُّبِينٌ ۝٧

Wa izaa tutlaa `alaihim Aayaatunaa baiyinaatin qaalal lazeena kafaroo lilhaqqi lammaa jaaa`ahum haazaa sihrum mubeen

Word Meanings:

تُتْلَىٰ – is recited or read aloud.
بَيِّنَاتٍ – clear, evident, and manifest signs.
لِلْحَقِّ – referring to the truth, i.e., the Qur'an.
لَمَّا جَاءَهُمْ – when it came to them.
سِحْرٌ مُّبِينٌ – clear, obvious magic or sorcery.

Tafsir (Explanation):

When the verses of Allah are recited to the disbelievers—verses that are crystal clear in their truth, wisdom, and divine origin—they do not respond with reflection or gratitude. Instead, when the Qur'an reaches them, they dismiss it arrogantly, saying: "This is nothing but clear-cut magic." They label the truth as sorcery, a claim that is both false and self-defeating, for true magic deceives and obscures, while the Qur'an illuminates and guides. Their accusation is not based on evidence but on stubbornness and pride, as they refuse to submit to the truth that challenges their desires and way of life.

This reaction reveals a profound spiritual blindness: when the truth arrives in its most radiant form, those who have closed their hearts to guidance see it as something to be rejected rather than embraced. They call it "clear magic" even though it is "clear truth"—a contradiction that exposes their inner turmoil. The Qur'an, with its unmatched eloquence, profound meanings, and life-transforming guidance, stands as a living miracle that no human can replicate, and yet they reduce it to the level of sorcery.

A Call to Reflection and Faith:

Dear reader, pause and reflect: what makes a heart label the clearest truth as mere illusion? It is the love of this world, the fear of losing status, or the unwillingness to change. But the Qur'an is not magic—it is a mercy, a healing for the hearts, and a light that dispels the darkness of ignorance and despair. When you open your heart to it, you will find that it speaks directly to your soul, answering your deepest questions and guiding you to the path of peace and success in this life and the Hereafter.

Do not be like those who heard the truth and turned away, calling it magic. Instead, be among those who listen attentively, ponder deeply, and respond with submission and love. For the same verses that the disbelievers mocked are the very verses that have transformed billions of lives, lifted nations from ignorance, and brought tranquility to restless hearts. The choice is yours: will you see the Qur'an as magic to be rejected, or as the divine guidance it truly is—a treasure that leads you to eternal bliss?

5وَمَنْ أَضَلُّ مِمَّن يَدْعُو مِن دُونِ اللَّهِ مَن لَّا يَسْتَجِيبُ لَهُ إِلَىٰ يَوْمِ الْقِيَامَةِ وَهُمْ عَن دُعَائِهِمْ غَافِلُونَ

And who is more astray than he who invokes besides Allah those who will not respond to him until the Day of Resurrection, and they, of their invocation, are unaware.

6وَإِذَا حُشِرَ النَّاسُ كَانُوا لَهُمْ أَعْدَاءً وَكَانُوا بِعِبَادَتِهِمْ كَافِرِينَ

And when the people are gathered [that Day], they [who were invoked] will be enemies to them, and they will be deniers of their worship.

7وَإِذَا تُتْلَىٰ عَلَيْهِمْ آيَاتُنَا بَيِّنَاتٍ قَالَ الَّذِينَ كَفَرُوا لِلْحَقِّ لَمَّا جَاءَهُمْ هَٰذَا سِحْرٌ مُّبِينٌ

And when Our verses are recited to them as clear evidences, those who disbelieve say of the truth when it has come to them, "This is obvious magic."

8أَمْ يَقُولُونَ افْتَرَاهُ ۖ قُلْ إِنِ افْتَرَيْتُهُ فَلَا تَمْلِكُونَ لِي مِنَ اللَّهِ شَيْئًا ۖ هُوَ أَعْلَمُ بِمَا تُفِيضُونَ فِيهِ ۖ كَفَىٰ بِهِ شَهِيدًا بَيْنِي وَبَيْنَكُمْ ۖ وَهُوَ الْغَفُورُ الرَّحِيمُ

Or do they say, "He has invented it?" Say, "If I have invented it, you will not possess for me [the power of protection] from Allah at all. He is most knowing of that in which you are involved. Sufficient is He as Witness between me and you, and He is the Forgiving the Merciful."

9قُلْ مَا كُنتُ بِدْعًا مِّنَ الرُّسُلِ وَمَا أَدْرِي مَا يُفْعَلُ بِي وَلَا بِكُمْ ۖ إِنْ أَتَّبِعُ إِلَّا مَا يُوحَىٰ إِلَيَّ وَمَا أَنَا إِلَّا نَذِيرٌ مُّبِينٌ

Say, "I am not something original among the messengers, nor do I know what will be done with me or with you. I only follow that which is revealed to me, and I am not but a clear warner."
