Translation — Tafsir
Word Meanings:
- Kafarū (كَفَرُوا): Those who disbelieved, denied the truth, and covered it up with ingratitude.
- Kadhdhabū (كَذَّبُوا): Those who rejected and declared as false.
- Bi-Āyātinā (بِآيَاتِنَا): Our signs, proofs, and revelations sent down through Our messengers.
- Aṣḥābu al-Jaḥīm (أَصْحَابُ الْجَحِيمِ): The companions of the blazing, fiercely burning Fire — meaning those who will abide therein forever.
Tafsir (Explanation):
After mentioning the reward of the believers in the previous verse, Allah now draws a sharp contrast by describing the fate of those who choose the path of rejection. Those who disbelieve in Allah’s Oneness, deny the prophethood of Muhammad (peace be upon him), and reject the clear signs and revelations that Allah sent down through His messengers — such people are not merely misguided; they have actively turned away from the truth after it was made evident to them.
Their punishment is not a temporary one. They are described as *aṣḥābu al-Jaḥīm* — the companions of the blazing Fire. The word *ṣuḥbah* (companionship) in Arabic implies permanence and deep association. Just as a companion stays with you, these people will stay with the Fire — never leaving it, never finding relief from its torment. The *Jaḥīm* is the intensely blazing, fiercely burning fire, a level of Hell that is severe in its heat and punishment.
This verse serves as a powerful reminder of the gravity of disbelief and rejection. When a person receives the truth — through the Qur’an, through the natural signs in the universe, through the guidance of the prophets — and still chooses to deny it, they are sealing their own fate. The justice of Allah is perfect: those who reject His mercy and guidance will face the consequence of their choice.
A Call to Reflection and Action:
Dear reader, this verse is not meant to frighten you without purpose — it is a wake-up call from the Most Merciful. Allah is telling us that the path of disbelief leads to a terrible end, so that we may choose the path of faith and salvation instead. The door of repentance is open until the last moment of our lives. If you find yourself distant from Allah, know that His mercy is greater than your sins. Return to Him, embrace His signs, and you will be among those who are saved from the Fire and admitted into eternal bliss. The choice is yours — and the time to make it is now.
