Key Words and Their Meanings:

(Tayyibat): The pure, wholesome, and lawful pleasures and provisions that are good and beneficial.
(La tuharrimu): Do not make unlawful or forbid for yourselves.
(Wa la ta'tadu): Do not transgress or overstep the limits set by Allah.
(Al-Mu'tadeen): Those who exceed the boundaries of what is lawful and permissible.

Explanation of the Verse:

O you who have believed! Allah, in His infinite mercy and wisdom, has made lawful for you a vast array of pure and wholesome things—delicious foods, refreshing drinks, and the blessing of marriage—all of which bring comfort and joy to the soul. Do not, out of misguided asceticism or false piety, forbid these blessings upon yourselves, as if you were more righteous than Allah’s own decree. Nor should you transgress by overstepping into the unlawful, thinking that extreme self-denial brings you closer to Him. Indeed, Allah does not love those who exceed the limits He has set; rather, He abhors such behavior, for He desires ease and balance for His servants, not hardship.

A Call to Reflection and Action:

Beloved believer, this verse is a gentle yet powerful reminder that Islam is a religion of moderation and mercy. Allah has not placed upon you a burden to deprive yourself of His bounties; rather, He invites you to enjoy them with gratitude and within His boundaries. When you savor a lawful meal, cherish your spouse, or relish the beauty of this world, let it be an act of worship—a recognition of His generosity. Do not let whispers of extremism push you to reject what He has permitted, for such behavior displeases Him. Instead, embrace the middle path: enjoy the good things of life with a thankful heart, and guard yourself from crossing into the forbidden. This is the way of the Prophet ﷺ and the key to a life of peace, contentment, and divine love. Let this verse inspire you to live fully, yet righteously, knowing that Allah’s love is reserved for those who honor His boundaries with wisdom and balance.

📜 Verse 85-89 — Al-Maidah

So Allah rewarded them for what they said with gardens [in Paradise] beneath which rivers flow, wherein they abide eternally. And that is the reward of doers of good.
But those who disbelieved and denied Our signs - they are the companions of Hellfire.
O you who have believed, do not prohibit the good things which Allah has made lawful to you and do not transgress. Indeed, Allah does not like transgressors.
And eat of what Allah has provided for you [which is] lawful and good. And fear Allah, in whom you are believers.
Allah will not impose blame upon you for what is meaningless in your oaths, but He will impose blame upon you for [breaking] what you intended of oaths. So its expiation is the feeding of ten needy people from the average of that which you feed your [own] families or clothing them or the freeing of a slave. But whoever cannot find [or afford it] - then a fast of three days [is required]. That is the expiation for oaths when you have sworn. But guard your oaths. Thus does Allah make clear to you His verses that you may be grateful.
