Surah Qaf — Verse 17

Tafsir (Explanation):

This verse reminds us of a profound reality: two angels are appointed to every human being, sitting on the right and on the left, constantly recording every action, word, and even thought that translates into deed. The angel on the right writes down the good deeds, while the angel on the left writes down the bad deeds. They are described as "Qa‘eed" — a companion who sits with you at all times, never parting from you, whether you are awake or asleep, in public or in private.

This is not a scene from the distant future; it is happening right now, at every moment of your life. Every breath you take, every word you utter, every step you make — it is all being meticulously documented. Nothing is too small or insignificant to be recorded. This is the divine system of accountability, established by the All-Wise, so that on the Day of Judgment, every soul will be confronted with a complete and precise record of its deeds.

A Da‘wah Reflection:

Imagine if you had a camera recording your every move, and you knew that this footage would be shown to everyone on the Day of Judgment. How careful would you become? Yet, here we have something even greater — angels appointed by the Lord of the Worlds, who miss nothing. This knowledge should fill your heart with a sense of responsibility, but also with hope. For the angel on your right is eagerly writing down your good deeds — your prayers, your kindness, your charity, your patience. Every time you suppress your anger for the sake of Allah, every time you help someone in need, every time you remember Allah in your heart — it is being recorded as a treasure for you.

So, let this verse inspire you to fill the pages of your record with goodness. Do not despair over past sins; the door of repentance is open, and Allah is the Most Merciful. But from this moment forward, live with the awareness that you are never alone — you are always in the presence of noble scribes, and ultimately, in the presence of Allah who sees all. This awareness is the key to a life of righteousness, and it is a gift that turns every ordinary moment into an opportunity to earn eternal rewards.
