Translation — Tafsir

Word Meanings:

  • Tasīr (تَسِيرُ): To move, travel, or journey from one place to another.
  • Al-Jibāl (الْجِبَالُ): The mountains—the firm, massive structures of the earth.
  • Sayran (سَيْرًا): A movement or journey, emphasizing the manner of motion.

Explanation of the Verse:

On that tremendous Day—the Day of Judgment—the mountains, which once seemed so solid, immovable, and eternal, will be set in motion. They will depart from their fixed places and travel like clouds drifting across the sky, losing all their stability and grandeur. This movement is not a gentle shift but a terrifying transformation: the mountains will crumble, break apart, and scatter into fine dust, ultimately becoming like carded wool—soft, loose, and weightless—before vanishing entirely. This verse paints a vivid picture of the total upheaval of the natural world, where even the most unshakeable elements of creation submit to the absolute power of Allah. Nothing will remain as it was; every anchor of earthly life will be uprooted, signaling the end of this world and the beginning of the eternal reckoning.

A Call to Reflection:

Imagine the mountains you see today—towering, majestic, and seemingly everlasting. Yet, on that Day, they will move like clouds, dissolve like dust, and vanish without a trace. This is a reminder that no matter how strong or permanent we believe our world to be, it is all temporary and subject to Allah’s command. The One who can move mountains with a single word is fully capable of bringing every soul to account. So, dear reader, let this truth awaken your heart: do not cling to the fleeting comforts of this life, but prepare for the Day when all creation will bow to its Creator. Turn to Allah now, seek His mercy, and live a life that pleases Him—for on that Day, only faith and good deeds will be your refuge. The mountains will move, but the believer’s heart, anchored in Allah, will find peace.

📜 Verse 8-12 — At-Tur

Of it there is no preventer.
On the Day the heaven will sway with circular motion
And the mountains will pass on, departing -
Then woe, that Day, to the deniers,
Who are in [empty] discourse amusing themselves.
