Translation — Tafsir

Word Meanings:

  • عَذَابَ (ʿadhāb): The painful punishment and torment.
  • رَبِّكَ (rabbika): Your Lord, O Messenger — the One who created, sustains, and governs all affairs with perfect wisdom and justice.
  • لَوَاقِعٌ (lawāqiʿ): Certainly befalling, inevitably occurring, and descending without fail.

Tafsir (Explanation):

This verse delivers a decisive and emphatic declaration: the punishment of your Lord, O Messenger, upon the disbelievers who reject the truth and persist in their denial, is absolutely certain and unavoidable. It is not a threat that may or may not materialize — it is a fixed decree that will inevitably descend. Nothing in the heavens or the earth can prevent it, no intercessor can block it, and no power can repel it when its appointed time arrives. This punishment refers to the torment of the Hereafter that awaits the disbelievers on the Day of Judgment, a day when the sky will be violently shaken, its order disrupted, and the mountains will be set in motion and become like drifting clouds — marking the end of this worldly life and the beginning of the eternal reckoning.

The verse uses the emphatic particle "inna" (indeed) combined with the intensive "lawāqiʿ" (surely befalling) to remove any shadow of doubt. It is a solemn oath of certainty from the Lord of the Worlds, whose word is truth and whose promise never fails. The punishment is not merely possible or probable — it is an absolute reality that will come to pass, whether the disbelievers believe it or not, whether they mock it or dismiss it.

Daʿwah Reflection:

This verse is a profound reminder of Allah's perfect justice. Just as He rewards the righteous with eternal bliss, He punishes the wicked with eternal torment. No one escapes His reckoning, and no deed is hidden from His sight. For the believer, this verse instills awe and reverence, motivating sincere obedience and constant repentance. For the one who hesitates in faith, it is a loving call to return to Allah before the inevitable arrives — for the door of repentance remains open, and Allah's mercy is vast, but the punishment of Allah is also severe when it descends upon those who persist in disbelief. Let this certainty move your heart to draw closer to your Creator, for He is the Most Merciful, yet His justice is absolute. The time to act is now, before the sky is torn apart and the mountains are scattered — for then, no soul will have a second chance.
