Word Meanings:

  • ذُو مِرَّةٍ (Dhu Mirrah): Possessor of great strength and power; also interpreted as possessing sound intellect and a beautiful, perfect form.
  • فَاسْتَوَى (Fastawā): He rose and stood upright, appearing in his true, complete form.

Explanation of the Verse:

This verse continues to describe the one who taught the Prophet Muhammad (peace be upon him) — and that is the angel Jibril (Gabriel), peace be upon him. Allah describes him as "Dhu Mirrah" — meaning he is endowed with immense strength, both physical and spiritual, and he possesses a majestic, beautiful appearance that reflects the perfection of his creation. He is not a weak or ordinary being; rather, he is a mighty angel of Allah, honored and powerful.

Then Allah says "Fastawā" — meaning that Jibril rose and stood upright, appearing before the Prophet (peace be upon him) in his true, original form that Allah created him upon. This was not a vision or a dream, but a real, physical manifestation in the highest horizon, where the Prophet saw him clearly with his own eyes. This moment was a profound confirmation of the truth of revelation — that the Quran was not the product of the Prophet's imagination, but a direct communication delivered by a mighty angel from Allah, the Lord of the worlds.

A Call to Reflection and Faith:

Dear reader, ponder the greatness of this scene: the Prophet Muhammad (peace be upon him), a human being, was honored by Allah to receive His divine message through the most powerful of angels, Jibril, who appeared in his full, awe-inspiring form. This teaches us the immense value of the Quran — it is not an ordinary book, but a divine revelation delivered with utmost care and precision. When you read the Quran, know that you are holding the words of Allah, conveyed by a mighty angel to the most beloved of creation. Let this fill your heart with reverence, love, and a deep desire to understand and live by its teachings. The Quran is your direct connection to your Lord — so turn to it, recite it, and let it guide you to success in this life and the next. Indeed, in this verse lies a proof of the truth of Islam and a call to embrace it with certainty and sincerity.
